I was talking about other professionally published authors who will go unnamed. Though, rereading my post it does look like I took a shot at you. For the record, I didn't have a hard time reading the text on your site.

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Welcome, Tony! I tend to agree with Martin--that background makes me go wotf003 I hear you on the "attractive website" thing, though. I've visited some professional author's sites and been amazed at how awful they are. (The fact that part of my job is web design probably does it.) wotf052...

Re: Slushpile readers

There are probably some posts from KD Wentworth floating around the forums which describes what she looks for in a contest piece, but I'm not sure where they are. There in often overlooked Information Alley . Also, you can search posts by user and look up all of KD's posts. Aha! I must have figured...

Re: re submission timing

And since such a small number of markets accept simultaneous submissions (simsubs) for short stories, as a practical matter I treat all markets as "no simsubs". It's also easier for me to track if each story is at just one market at a time. @animartco: For keeping track of which story is ...

Re: re submission timing

If you submitted and did not receive a response you can query at contests@authorservicesinc.com Did you submit via the interwebs or by postal mail? You should not submit your story to another market before you have an answer from WotF. If a market accepts multiple submissions (submitting several sto...

Re: Intergalactic Writer's Exchange

With respect to Mr. Smith, and everyone here, I don't expect a critique to make my crap story awesome. I only expect a critique to point out something I didn't see to make my already amazing story slightly more readable. Hopefully I will walk away with something useful that I can apply to the next s...

I would, but I'm not currently in a position to exchange anything. :| I hope you find someone so this idea doesn't die.

Re: Science Fiction and Fantasy on TV.

Honestly, it took FRINGE a little while to build up on the whole "two Universes at war" story arc they'd started with (maybe that's why some viewers drifted away?) Rule 17: Never confuse your audience so much that they are lost. Unless there is a mystery behind it and becons them into the...

Re: Who would win this contest....

Pretty much every Terry Goodkind story I've read was entertaining, but could have been presented in much fewer words. He repeats himself. A lot. Since he's on the NY Times best seller list (I think with every book he's written, something like 12-15), I find it plausible that he could win a contest l...

Audio Books

I'm taking a trip across the country via car (about 15 hours). I'm looking for an audio book I can get on my iPod that is super engaging to help me stay awake. Now I have a never-ending list of novels I would like to read, but I'm not looking for a good book - I'm looking for something that translat...

Re: NOTE: This is how you format your Contest entry!

Thought I'd post KD's suggestions for formatting an electronic entry from the SFF forum: 1. Turn off Track Changes 2. Check the spelling of your title 3. Double space the manuscript (!) 4. Delete your name EVERYWHERE 5. Do not put an extra blank line between paragraphs unless you want to indicate a ...
