I just had a haiku accepted for the spring issue Acorn . That probably doesn't mean anything to anybody here, but it's one of the top-tier haiku journals. Wahoo! wotf007 That's awesome (though I don't think anyone's surprised wotf001 ); congrats! And congrats Dantzel! wotf010 Publishing day is best!

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

I received a rejection from Asimov's today, and when I saw it in my inbox I said to my friend Megan (who I'm visiting in Canada for a week) "Oh okay, just got another rejection... oh! It's a personal!" This was my rejected Q4, the longest short story I've ever written, about 9400 words. (...

Re: Cover Workshop

That's pretty awesome! I don't think it's too busy. When I shrink it down to thumbnail size a lot of the ancillary details sort of fade out. I think it looks good. Remember that some platforms will only accept black and white interiors, so it may end up looking like this on someone's eReader: http:/...

Ok, thanks! :) I'll either try to add some desperation to this image, in his face and hands, or start something from scratch if I can't manage that. Oh, this is an image you made? Very cool. I think Soul Mirror pointed out before that the character is looking off screen. What about a screen shot fr...

Re: Cover Workshop

How much do people/companies charge for cool fonts? Yikes, I have no idea. I've never seriously considered paying for a font before, since so many are free. Browsing at the paid fonts at Urban Fonts looks like they range from $20 to several hundred dollars. But if you're buying a font, it works lik...

Re: Cover Workshop

Thank you both! Very helpful. I'll probably start from scratch and come up with a different image, one that has a bit more, as you said, dramatic content, so just to clarify that if zoomed out a little, the kid is floating along a corridor. As for font, I'm really not sure what I should be looking ...

I've been playing at cover-making. Here is the first serious attempt! The story meant to go inside it isn't very good wotf019 , it was my first HM, and at only 3200 words it's a bit short. But let me know what you think of the cover, including "A Tragedy from Mercury" which I'm not sure a...
