Re: Resources for Illustrators

Come visit the new(ish) website Val Lakey Lindahn and Meliva Koch (and no doubt MANY hardworking others, because it looks like a BIG project) are e-asking past IOTF folks to contribute to! It's a glimpse of the BIG OL' BOOK to come! It'd be super-neato to have BIG artist / contestant participation a...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I'm told they do a fair job of coaching the winners on their speeches. Presentation skills are part of marketing, after all. Actually, the "How to market yourself" workshop is after the awards show, if i recall rightly. They do take us in and have us walk to the podium and speak into the ...

Re: Cannot use images in signatures?

Wonder if there's a problem on Scott's host side. I've been able to see it (animated too) all along. And just to clarify, in Brad's post below (or above, if that's how you {sc}roll) it was only signature images he was deliberating on , not images at large. I agree, my original assumption was simply...

I'll either jump to go see that movie ... or have the memory of having seen it implanted into me and then jump from a levitating cop car with Jessica Biel and fall thirty storeys, yeah! wotf008

Re: Cannot use images in signatures?

I'm tempted to cut images entirely from signatures, but I haven't decided yet. Could we ask "Why?" Some sites don't even have avatars, and those are sad, visual-arts un friendly sites indeed. Most here obviously choose not to avail themselves of a visual signature, but that's their call. ...

Re: Cannot use images in signatures?

Other than that, I have no clue; but I won't easily recognize your posts without those images. They're your calling card. Alas, back in the old school, several of us had lovely visual sigs ... but it does seem that folks sort of drift away * from the forums after they win their contest (or pro out)...

Cannot use images in signatures?

My "Tiananmen Square / Man versus Tanks" image disappeared from my signature (I assume the outside image link just went down or is gone, okay) ... but now when I try to restore another image ... the signature tool tells me image code is not accepted. Is that some unintended glitch from the...

What if you found a watch in the sand?:

Give it back, muthahfrakker -- I lost a watch on Venice Beach about 20 years ago.

Don't make me hunt you down then strap you down and make you watch me kill yer precious spambots in front of your eyes one at a time

I haven't in the past, but I don't think it would hurt you to do so. If your story is pages more than 68 pages ... but under the stated 17,000 word contest rule ... I'd certainly tell KD that it's under 17,000 words , just so she knows . It's the same philosophy about formatting: Don't give them an...

Re: ILLUSTRATORS' Q & A

One of the ones I won with, was a previous entry (though I can't say whether it had been a finalist or not?) I did add a monster at the edge, but that was about 10-20% new (though as I've described before, either here or discussing someone's art in PM ... I thought adding the monster pulled the whol...

Re: Cover Workshop

Overall, I like it alot. i think the "star/snowflake" on her forehead improves the vibe 100% ... but a) it is clearly somehow on a different plane (to my eye, imo) than the others, and b) it might be better if it's not so obviously exactly the same as the others. Darker? inverse? etc. Also...

It's still wonderful and amazing to see your contest entries -- your so close misses and actual winning art! -- as both a fan of your cool art and a past contestant! As an artist beginning to submit myself, I remember seeing your winning "Cruciger" art in the book and loving it -- and bein...

Ha! Us and our 'First world problem' ... back in the day, if you were in the USSR you probably didn't dare write anything beyond 'speculative' about how great the workers' utopia would be ('Even more perfect than today!') ... and you'd have to assume that a waylaid submission was late because it was...
