Re: Cover Workshop

I like it alot! But I actually didn't "see" it as a mask at all, I can see it as "facepaint" ... but really I just thought it was the flame light spot-illuminating the eye. Even by that interpretation, it's a killer cover imo. But if you want to emphasize the "superhero"...

I think someone at the event announced that next year marked the 25th anniversary for Illustrators. So your figuring seems to be correct. Thanks for the info! Good, that's great to know! So ... every IOTF winner needs to get their art submitted to the 25th Anniversary Book website! http://iof25.com...

IOTF Illustrators could put their art on Amazon WOTF's

On the new WOTF #29, for instance? It helps sell the book (everyone benefits there, writers and illustrators both!) Show potential readers and buyers that the WOTF is hat rare and beautiful gem, these days: the ILLUSTRATED book! :) See how purty WOTF #28 is (but more Illustrators need to add their ...

It's a good question, afraid I don't know the answer, myself. Does anyone here know? I'd like to hear how it goes, myself! The one time I got written non-winning Finalist feedback, there were three/four art judges who had scored my art and also written comments along with a point-by-point scoring li...

Hi. It's a question that puzzles Writers and Illustrators both, and pretty much it's forever a mystery. The Contest keeps it mysterious ... but the common answer would be "thousands" (and getting bigger every quarter) It's commonly believed that there are more Writers in the contest, than ...

Very dramatic image visually, but i agree it says little about the genre (though the caption does promise comedy). Have you considered using some sort of "abused" or broken / corroded font for the title? Or breaking the lower caption lines up so it reads differently? A black comedy about a...

I like the colours, the tonal values, but the comment above strikes me as true too: the bright primary red conflicts (imo) with the blue, it's sort of a flat garish contrast compared to the nice flesh and background feel. Again, just my take on it. EYES are always important: either the character (mo...

Re: Cover Workshop

I see an image. I'd say the cover art is definitely sci-fi or medical (obviously) but then the TITLE would cause me some genre confusion. "Angel" ??? I get that kids are their mothers' little angel, but I'm reading it as a title, which suggests a genre-twist, which says "fantasy"...

Just remember that one of their big criteria is telling a story with your art, not just showing a character or a scene. True that. Anyone visiting the deviantart site can see a vast array of well-rendered dragons and orcs, robots and spaceships ... but not so many images that "stick" in y...

Awww ... You should read Patty's story in #27!

#1 because it's a great story and #2 because you're pretty much dead-on interpretting elements I was trying to capture and showcase FROM the story.

Thanks!
