Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!

Hate to ask this here, but has anyone used CreateSpace? Yep. How did it go? You order any of your own books? For each of my novels, I have an ebook version as well as a print version (and sometimes an audiobook version). I use InDesign to create the file for the print version. It took a little lear...

13 Harsh Truths by Bob Mayer

So true, so true... http://writeitforward.wordpress.com/2014/04/29/so-you-want-to-make-a-living-writing-13-harsh-truths/ I liked them all but the best one was last: 13. I've done that before. They each got reviewed in their time. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I recently sold a story for the game Star Citizen. The first episode is up and it'll run on a weekly basis for a few months until it's done. https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/spectrum-dispatch/13820-The-First-Run-Episode-One It was really fun to write in someone else's universe, especiall...

Re: Success!

For SFWA? Yes, it still has to be to an approved market, and I think the minimum payment is going up to $60 to reflect the new 6 cents a word floor. I assume this is the same for WOTF. Thus Martin officially pro-ing out when Galaxy's Edge became approved with SWFA? My brain is always fuzzy on this ...

Re: Success!

Wouldn't you only need 5, at $50 each? (Since that seems to be the minimum per piece, and you'd have to sell 5 to make up the $250) I think five would work under the current rules. Under the upcoming rules, I think you'd need 10 or 11 to meet the 10,000 words part of things. Does it matter how many...

The other thing that's interesting is that this is just Amazon data. Sure, it's the biggest market, but there's still B&N, Kobo, Smashwords, etc.

Author Earnings

Hugh Howey strikes again. He's created a website to share earnings information (traditional, indie, and hybrid). Stunningly awesome amount of information. http://authorearnings.com/ The secondary goal of the site is to help change the terrible terms and contracts offered by traditional publishing.

So I still have a story out at Analog for 245 days. I queried Analog about it over two weeks ago, and have still heard nothing. I'm assuming it's lost or dead at this point. Does anyone have any advice on how to proceed? I'd give them time to respond and write more while you wait. Yes, it sucks to ...

Janet Reid Rant: Hiring an Editor

If you have aspirations to get an agent, Janet Reid (an agent) makes some very good points about the unethical behavior of some of her agent cohorts. http://jetreidliterary.blogspot.com/2014/01/rant-hiring-editor.html File under: things to look out for. Ask her for rates. It really depends on what level of editing you're looking for. She can copy-edit all the way up to content edit.

Re: Tout your Kindle and E-Publishing!

Not a e-published book yet but: I've said in a couple of different posts that my Indie Novel is stalled. Today I thought about doing something about that but lost what I needed. The biggest thing I need is someone to check the spelling, grammar, for typos, bad sentences etc. I had someone who said ...

Warning. This is a long, long post. I know JA Konrath's position on most of these topics discussed, but what I found most interesting was the questions and comments from the Kensington CEO. Self-Publishing Survey

Fascinating survey complete with lots of graphs. What I find interesting is that indie-publishing is still in its infancy. We're still only seeing the first few years of it. I wonder what it'll look like in five or ten years: http://theseasonforromance.com/wordpress/2014/01/the-self-publishing-surve...
