Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Welcome, Ariel! I second all the advice above. Dave's Kick's are worth their weight in gold (though since megabytes don't have any mass, the validity of this assertion is still up for debate), and I'd also recommend internalizing Heinlein's Rules . Making time to write every day and putting your stu...

Re: Worldcon or Comic Con? Your mileage may vary

Very interesting, Brad. Thanks for sharing! Lou Anders said much the same to us at WorldCon this year, and I definitely think the best con to attend will depend largely on where you are in your career and what you hope to accomplish from the experience. For me, since I don't have any content to sell...

Welcome Erin! It's great that you're starting to get serious while you're still young. Don't ever lose that drive and no matter what this business throws at you, always keep moving forward.

PS. Nice signature. wotf011

Re: Analog Submissions

When did she say that? I was at that panel when she & Gardner were discussing the relationship b/w editors & writers but I don't recall that. Seems like the thing that would set off fireworks in my head. Duotrope says no to multiple submissions, but their guidelines on closer reading don't ...

Re: Analog Submissions

I don't think any of us are helping him either. After Brad T. noted that he regularly submitted a new story to Analog every 30 days, I started doing the same. Now I have 4 stories in the queue. Otherwise, Analog would only see one or two stories from me a year, which means statistically, I might se...

Re: Analog Submissions

Checked last night mine is still being looked at. I sent it in June one I believe. So are they slowing down again? Seemed like they increased their response time a bit. Or am have I gotten my time sense mixed up? They had a burst of speed in July, cutting the queue down by almost two months in one ...

Re: You -- yes, YOU! -- are invited to a WorldCon Party!

Thanks Martin and I tend to agree. It looks like the temp position has a path open to a full time union position with great benefits, a pension (my god I never thought I'd see one of those), and doing a public good to boot. Congrats on the job, Bob! I'm glad you're liking it. And thanks for the off...

Anyone interested in sharing a hotel room in San Antonio and saving a few bucks? I promise, I don't take up a lot of space and am just as comfortable sleeping on the chair in the corner as on a bed.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I hadn't really considered the difference between words and language in this whole discussion of thoughts. Do people really dream/think in words? As in the physical letters that make up written language appearing in your mind's eye? Even when I'm writing, I think in sounds--in voices. Language. Writ...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

I don't dream that often (not that I can remember at least), but when I do, I have much the same experience as Bob is describing. Though lately it's been more of the former. Hmm, maybe that explains why I've been writing in first person so much...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

This has nothing to do with writing, but I have a phone interview for a digital applications librarian job in Oregon later today, and am feeling nervous. Awk! And you put this in the 'Almost Success' thread because of some Cassandra presentiment? Nay, gentle Brutus, the fault lies not in our stars....
