I feel like Penumbra has been hit or miss lately with submissions. Can't tell if they're losing them or just forgetting to respond.

According to their guidelines, they pay 6c a word, up to $240 per story. You're probably right about the genre focus, though they don't specifically preclude it.

NPR ran a story on Atlanta yesterday. A group of students and teachers were stuck at the school all night. It sounded like a fun little impromptu shut-in if you don't count the apocalyptic weather conditions.
