Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Laugh all you want, but the ring that's actually a planet is a pretty awesome idea. Isn't it kind of a trope? Maybe I'm thinking AD&D or something. AD&D has the stones that orbit the head. I haven't seen the ring concept. To me it seems more awesome, more cosmic even. In fact the idea hasn'...

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

I usually don't spend too much time searching for hidden personal info, since I never use track changes on my own story and any comments I might have stuck in for my own reference are easy enough to spot. Just save the story in .rtf, as this strips away the metadata that shows up automatically in Wi...

Re: Cover Workshop

Personally, I like the blurb the length that it is (it's a good hook, imo), though I definitely see what you mean about the white line. In particular, there's something a bit disorienting going on with the first 'n' in 'unknown'. You might consider making the font a little smaller and moving it off ...

Not to diminish the importance of the celebrations over in the Q1 thread, but I'd like to get some eyes on the story I've got planned for Q4. Anyone up for 450s? No. I'm not done with Q3 just yet, so no one's allowed to move on to Q4. ::stage hand brings out envelope and hands it to Strycher:: Wait...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29

Judging by the stories in the anthologies, KD favored sci-fi with a technical edge. I might even go so far as to say hard sci-fi. Dave campaigns for riveting emotion, something I often wanted more of in the average story in the anthology. What KD loved may fall flat for Dave, and what Dave loves mi...

I like Ursula K. LeGuin's Left Hand of Darkness . It's the story of an emissary from a galactic community that functions something like the Hanseatic League did here on Earth. He comes to a planet nicknamed Winter because it's cold and snowy all the time . Also, all the aliens on the planet change g...

while we're on the topic of fonts, are serif fonts better than sanserif? I figure serif fonts look more like they came out of a typewriter, which is a more professional look, but it could also have something to do with uniformity in character spacing.
