Re: Am I doing submissions backwards?

That said, I hate waiting. I almost always hit the super-fast pro markets first (Clarkesworld, Shimmer, Lightspeed, etc.), and then usually the super-fast respectable semi-pro and token markets (Interzone, etc.), and then return to the reasonable pro markets, before I move on to places like Analog ...

Re: Am I doing submissions backwards?

Rejections sting, there's no other way around it. On various writing communities I participate in rejection/submission contests. Rather than focusing on "damn it my story was rejected again, my writing is crap", it turns into "oh hey a rejection, I can add a point to my score" an...

Re: Penumbra Submissions

I'm also out of the running for Family Traditions. They liked it, but not enough to push to the next round.

I do have some winter stories, but I've got to finish the novel first.

Re: Penumbra Submissions

Has anyone sent their story twice to make sure it arrived at Penumbra? I received a mail delivery notification so I'm not sure if it went through. What happens if I send it again? No, but I always CC myself on my submissions. If it arrives back at me successfully, chances are good it arrived at its...

I'm behind on congrats too. Nice work you guys!

Oh and um I've had a sale: my short story How Cherry Coke Saved My Life to Nature's Futures.

It's my first pro publication and now I'm terrified I've started The Clock. Tick. Tick.

Re: Analog Submissions

Maybe if it ebbed and flowed, but they got the word out in the beginning and never recovered. Both Duotrope and The Grinder are very clear on how long the subs are out for. As close as one can come to common knowledge in the online world?

Q4 Swaps

In a few days, I'll have a 6k Sociological SF that needs a beta read. (Not a 450 swap!) Anyone interested, please PM. I'm happy to beta read / critique in exchange, but I won't be very helpful with techicnial aspects of hard SF.

Thanks
Dawn

Re: Analog Submissions

I'm catching up with forum reading after being offline between work and stuff... I know this is late, but I wanted to share some thoughts. It might be more productive at this point to skip Analog as a market until/if they get back on their feet. Or go into the submission knowing you've got a massiv...

Re: Stop Submitting Manuscripts to Traditional Publishers

The gist of the advice is self pub and use your published story as your submission. (If I understaood that right).

Now, I only need a novel that I feel comfortable putting out there. *shivers*

Re: Penumbra Submissions

Bummer, guys. Tamlyn: there's a whole 15 days to the end of bathe month--get cracking! wotf007 The one-line version of the reject is one I've received before, and the final round is different than the second. Preston: sounds like you have a good chance with it elsewhere, too, if that's its only fla...

Not this year. I went away twice last year, so no budget. I'm aiming for World Fantasy in 2014 though (nudge nudge). Annie's advice of paper and pen is right on. If you're a morning person, you'll find people are up in the lounge/lobby and actually writing. sometimes panels inspire you to jot down m...

Thanks guys! Congrats to you Krystal as well! :D

Alex: I wrote it in 2005. Ignored it for years. Started submitting it in 2009. Revised it in 2012 after hitting the pro markets. It's a favorite for sure... I'm really glad someone liked it enough to buy it.
