Re: Success!

I had a story accepted in Bards & Sages Quarterly. :D It'll be in the October issue.

It was my first WOTF entry -- which earned an HM. I received a rewrite request, did the rewrite after Viable Paradise, and then it was accepted.

So don't give up on those stories!

Crossing fingers for you all - and myself. I heard a few weeks ago that my story was passed up to the second round for the revolutions issue. Nothing since.

Some of us are still waiting. Suggest waiting another few days since the staff are busy with the workshop and awards ceremony this weekend.

Actually, that gives me a hint on why she's waiting for "one more box". Those of us from this past quarter with the website shut down must have been enetered hardcopy at Joni's hand.

Good luck to you guys!

Re: Really large issue - cannot submit!

Out of curiosity, what file types are you uploading? I think docx tends to be wonky with some of these systems? Did you try with a rtf at all?

Re: Five Minute Rant

Almost forgot. Scott P at F&SF does have more than one phrase for stories. I received a new one today "the story did not captivate me" . Not sure if that story got further than the previous ones or not as far, as it seems to be the case. I received this one too, and when I asked my mo...

Me too. I've actually set up MS files with a "for web posting" version already set up with the breaks and such, so when I come across those markets, I'm ready!

Re: Five Minute Rant

Dantzel, I also have to watch what I hand my hubby. The only reason I keep doing it is because every now and then he actually comes up with something really helpful. He doesn't read much (he tends to game instead) so as someone else has said, he's not my audience. But the amount of genre stuff he's ...

Re: Five Minute Rant

I've gotten three, "This story didn’t quite work for me, I'm afraid," rejections from F&SF in a row now. I forget who said there were three types of form rejects from Stephen, but I did a bit a Googling and it certainly looks like there's at least a "This story couldn't hold my i...

Re: Five Minute Rant

This is what happened to me when my new boss took over a few years ago, but the changes were more corporate projects and all office work, but work that I was now required to TAKE HOME WITH ME. Which meant, giving up writing time to do the day job. It sucked for about a year to a year and a half. My ...

I have a lot of random things that I learned. Some of these are serious, and some are humorous -- and some may SEEM humorous, but I'm serious about them. 1. Everyone is taller on the Internet. Not to name names (Scalzi), but some people are MUCH shorter than their Internet personalities might indic...

I love that we got together on the first night then kept running into each other throughout the con.

I'm sad that I probably won't get away again for a while. I must be very good to my husband over this next year... ;)

Re: Lessons from Worldcon

I learned that in some ways, i am utterly and completely NORMAL. :) But seriously: I learned how to identify myself and what I write - which will be important when making connections. I learned that endings need to be practiced. I learned that if I want to write science fiction, I need some seriousl...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

I think I'm okay with this - in a sense - but you know, it wouldn't hurt to hear better news. ... onward. It'll come, just keep working on it. Just keep swimming swimming s...
