Re: Success!

Nicely done, Stewart. I remember having seen this before do I not? wotf007 I also have a report. My 6300 short story The Hard Stuff has been accepted for the anthology Unbound II: Changed Worlds . I wrote it for the AE micro a few years back when the theme was "Elements," so yes, I think ...

Nice, Bob! That's 70,900 words more than I've completed on MY novel in progress since the start of the month! wotf001 I do have another story that's out today, though--and this one very short indeed at around 200 words. http://www.fantasticstoriesoftheimagination.com/flash-fiction-elements-of-a-succ...

I never made it into their pages either, and barely submitted (I suck at themes), but I liked what they put out.

Bummer, Aaron!

I'm still in (as flintonlaubakersmith). Last year I got 3rd place, so I'm interested to see if I can best that this time around!

I have a pretty strong English Lit background, though, and the fiction writing rounds tend to trip me up way more than the review rounds do. Eurgh!

Re: Story Titling

I think titles are supremely important--but I may be biased because I love coming up with them. Like Dustin, I feel like the core of the story should be in the title. A great title should also set the tone and at least hint at the genre for a story before you ever even start to read it. I was also t...

Then there's the rejections that come in the 2nd round. You'll get an e-mail that says you've made the 2nd round, so you know someone likes it, even if just a slusher -- then you get a form. Those are rough, I think. Good news, but also bad news, and no news. wotf015 Yeah, Warren seems to use exclu...

Re: Fantastic Stories Rejection Question

Generally speaking at FSI, if you make it past the first reader you will get a notification that you're being passed up to the editor. But (out of 8 submissions) I have received one rejection straight from Warren that said I got past the first reader where I didn't get the bump e-mail. Not sure that...

Strange New Worlds is back... with a catch

Strange New Worlds is basically an official publishing opportunity for Star Trek fanfiction. I know a few people here have published in it in the past, and will probably be pleased to see it return. But there's a catch, and it's kind of a doozy. http://www.startrekbooks.com/contest_rules The new inc...

Wyrm's Gauntlet writing contest

I took part in this writing/reviewing contest last year and enjoyed it quite a bit. Basically, there are four rounds, some of which involve writing a story, and others of which involve writing a review . It's free to sign up, and there are cash prizes for anyone who makes it to the top three places....
