Re: Success!

I've been head down in my novel -- almost done 71,000 words out of an estimated 80,000.

Also a success worth celebrating. Well done, Bob!

Re: 7k Fantasy Crit Exchange

I'm down for a swap. I think mine is about 6k (don't have it in front of me). Contemporary fantasy. Email me yours, and I'll send mine.

I probably won't have a chance to read until the weekend.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33

I'll take you up on that, Ishmael. Mine is sf, about 5,000-6,000 words. (I don't have it in front of me at the moment.) I'll send you my story later when I'm on my computer, and I'll be happy to read yours. If you can send it to me tonight, I expect to be able to turn it around for you this weekend.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33

You read my Q4 story, disgruntled one. I definitely had to clean up some language. My favorite line of the whole story featured the F word quite prominently. I almost hope it loses, because I would sort of rather see it published with the profanity uncensored. Not that I would mind a win. Notice I s...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33

Woo! Just made a big break-through on my Q1 story. I've been writing and rewriting and trying out different approaches for a couple months, now, and I was kind of not convinced that this one was ever going to gel into anything, but I think I just found a shape and a direction for it. Still got a lon...

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Well, got a personalized R from Mr. Finlay at F&SF. I feel pretty good about that, I guess. I don't know about you, but I'm really ready to break out of this "almost there" spot I feel like I'm in.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Sounds like several of us sitting on the cusp of making some good sales. Good luck all! What do you say we all go ahead and break through and do a forum sweep of the publishing world?

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Had one go to round 2 at Futuristica. That was eventually rejected, so I sent a 2nd one. Rejected at the first tier. Oh well.

Re: Success!

Made my first sale ever. Sold one to Stupefying Stories. I'm officially out of the "hoping to one day be published" camp. I guess now I'm in the "hoping to one day be published again" camp.

Re: Almost Success - The "Mixed Feelings" Thread

Well, got the higher tier rejection letter from Sheila Williams at Asimov's. "Thank you for letting me see [story]. The story is nicely done, but I'm afraid it's not quite right for me. I look forward to your next one, though." Not quite a win, but my fragile psyche will chalk it up as a p...

Re: Five Minute Rant

Why the HELL can't I get anyone to touch any of my stories? Do they have some kind of infectious disease? Why do these editors not recognize my stories as INCREDIBLE WORKS OF GREAT GENIUS?! These are really good stories! (I know because I've read every last one of them.) I've collected tons of rejec...

Q1 2015, 4900 words

Anyone want to exchange crits for Q1? I have a completed second draft ready for critiques, about 4,900 words. I'm not too concerned about word count on the exchange; I'll read your longer story.

E-mail me if interested.

I'm new to the forum, first post, but not first contest submission.
