Re: Mailing Lists - Good ones? Yours?

Anyone who has aspirations for a long term career should start a mailing list. Even if you don't have anything published yet. It's free on mailchimp until you have a certain number of followers. Then as you publish things, make sure your mailing list link is displayed somewhere. Here's mine: http://...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33

Received my second Q1 rejection, came by to wonder if she made a mistake and it was suppose to be Q2 but evidently not. Maybe she forgot to make a notation that sent mine already. Even though the thought went through my mind I will not think "boy they must have hated my story with two rejectio...

I tried to write cursive the other day, just for giggles. My fingers didn't even know how to start.

That is a crazy statistic Emily. Maybe one of the long time forumites will enlighten us. The fact that it was at 3am suggests that it's not real. I don't recall anything in particular around that year that would have led to that many people checking the forum at that time at night. Probably a glitc...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 32

Both. This is my second SF. I haven't received this critique yet, but on my last one, DF pointed out a sentence on my first page that was awkwardly worded and said that when he made the cut between SF and Finalist, he put mine in the SF pile because of that one tiny problem. Otherwise, he said it c...

Congratulations on getting a semi Thomas. *snigger* Sorry. I'll behave. Congratulations on the semi-finalist though, Thomas--I'm kind of jealous and curious to know what the semi-finalist critiques are like, if they're more like a personal rejection (i.e. couple of paragraphs) or a detailed breakdo...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q4 - Volume 32

Hardly a large data set (ooh, hark at me and my ego), but my five rejections were: ⋅ 30/10/2013 Wednesday ⋅ 17/06/2014 Tuesday ⋅ 02/10/2014 Thursday ⋅ 16/12/2014 Tuesday ⋅ 10/02/2015 Tuesday so more often a Tuesday than a Thursday. Still, with DF's ...

Re: Retiring a Piece - When to Call it Quits

I submit despite my feelings towards a particular piece. I have one story that's been rejected 32 times and it's received a personal on five of those occasions. I'll keep sending it out until it sells. Of course, I have to wait for new markets to open up for it to have a place to go, but it's not li...
