We haven't heard about any finalists yet. This may be why. Dave said this on his FB page today:

"Yay, I should be able to start judging this week, then, on Q4. Most of the entries come in electroncially, so I've already begun reading those."

Must have been a huge quarter. There are more honorable mentions than I've ever seen before, like more than 200! wotf015

Congratulations to the winners and honorees of the 3rd quarter of Writers (and Illustrartors) of the Future! Many of my friends are in this fine list of writers! You know who you are. : )

And to all that entered: Great job! It takes courage to take a story to completion, and then to send it out to be judged. There is always the next quarter, so there is always the hope to win next time. Just keep writing, keep learning, keep sending!

Cheers!

I wonder when they send out the certificates. Excited to get mine. I know it's just HM. But, I've never joined any writing contest before, and this is only my second entry here. It's not a win, but it's a great motivator for me to finish my stories. I've never once finished a story longer than 5k words (I know, I'm an expert procrastinator). Even this one that got HM was an unfinished story under 5k words. A jape, Dave would say. The ending was a pun that was too jarring it may have pissed off the readers. I just wanted to send anything that I sent an unfinished story. I figured if it was good enough, someone would be interested to know how it ends.

Joni said Q3 certificates in the next few weeks. I know she is busy. They will come.

Congrats to all!

Those who won, wotf009

Those who tried, wotf010

And to those who continue to strive,

May the scratching of your pens tug upon the strings of the universe and bring forth fire and intrigue, passions and triumphs, struggles and sorrows. Go forth to create the next nexus — to fill the continual hunger of the imagination.

Same here. No sour grapes, don’t get me wrong! Just seems like a “still in the running” is totally incongruent with a flat-out R.

Onward and upward!

Now that Dave has help going through stories, that's not necessarily true. It probably means you made it past Kary's read through, but not past Dave's. There are a lot of stories that get judged each quarter, which is why Dave needs that extra pair of eyes in the first place. Even so, don't let it get you down--I've revised R's into SHMs before. (Never got a finalist out of them, but I've definitely tried.)

I missed this a couple months ago - thanks for the feedback!
Still unknown - get me while my stock is low!

2x HM
