David Farland is overbooked. I'm thinking that, while the Q1 delay is exceptional, we might be in for longer waits every quarter when compared to the wait we had with KD.

That's not to say or imply anything against Farland. I think he's a great choice and he's definitely got the chops to do the job.

But I do expect a longer wait while someone with that kind of schedule is the coordinating judge/editor. There are only so many hours in the day.

I have another thought. (because I've had oodles of time to think.)
No one will hear until David is officially announced on PRweb.

Going by the way the contest likes to make announcements official on PRweb before the blog, etc, that'd be my newest guess.

Then again, I think for Q4 last year Kathy announced the finalists on SFF.net. Not sure why she'd do that other than a desire to let folks know so they could move on to the next Q.

Aah speculation. wotf004

Which begs the question: Why haven't they announced it yet?

I'm thinking that, as people have already suggested, that judging didn't commence until his contract was finalized. And he's also very busy.

I'm guessing that he has his own group of finalists he likes and then there's the KD group of finalists. He has to boil both groups down to the proper number before sending them off. Depending on how many KD had in her 'hold?' pile, that may be a difficult task. Just a thought. Given the timetable, his schedule, the number of entries eluded to, and the timing of his contract completion, I think the only sure assumption is .... NNINN.

Not to mention, of course, that they'd presumably have had to somehow gather up all the paper subs and ship them over to him.

On the other hand,

I have my suspicions a couple of phone calls have been made.

A couple of cryptic comments I've seen elsewhere have made me wonder.....

Of course, I could be wrong.

If you remember last year, Meghan was remarkably uncryptic in her admissions that she knew something. While there are incredibly unsubtle Gators on the forum whose jaws would have to be taped at the mere mention of a secret, perhaps not all of us are quite that blunt-clawed. wotf004

Although using the expression in its original sense is now rare, using it in the newer sense will cause irritation among traditionalists.

Which begs the question: Are you a traditionalist? And if you are, that begs the question: Does the modern use of the phrase irritate you? I wouldn't think so--as the original sense of the term is useless since it's obviously outdated.

"Soap" was a late 70s/early 80s soap opera parody that was briefly one of the funniest things on TV. Take any soap opera cliche, and they did it bigger and funnier. Chuck and Bob were two stepsons of one of the main characters -- except Chuck was a ventriloquist, and Bob was his foul-mouthed, lecherous ventriloquist dummy (with a heart of gold -- get him near a baby, and he melted into googoo talk). The best scenes were where other characters would forget Bob was a dummy and start interacting with him as a person.

So the only question is: is Evil Martin Bob, or is he Chuck?

In "Soap", you could be both. He became a mental patient because he was a murder -- well, OK, it was self-defense -- and he couldn't stand the stress because the guy he murdered was the first husband of the woman he eventually married. Finally he flipped out and decided he could become invisible by snapping his fingers while crossing his arms in front of him.

But then once he was cured, then he was abducted by aliens; and one alien became his duplicate and came down and replaced him on Earth. When he escaped and tried to tell people this story, they thought he had gone insane again -- especially because of how his duplicate had been acting.

Later he went on a vigilante tirade against some local hoodlums (I forget the reason why), and became such a local celebrity that he was elected sheriff. And he became even more effective as a sheriff when the mob shot his stepson. Out for blood, he singlehandedly brought in the bosses of the local crime families -- this despite being armed only with a baseball bat.

So the mob set him up for blackmail. And then the series ended.

Yep, for the demon-possessed baby born 4 months after his defrocked priest father married his mother. (And yes, the baby was born in 4 months, not 9.)

The series lost its way in the last season; but the first two seasons were comedy gold. And they introduced Billy Crystal to a larger audience.
