Isn't it kind of a trope? Maybe I'm thinking AD&D or something.

AD&D has the stones that orbit the head. I haven't seen the ring concept. To me it seems more awesome, more cosmic even. In fact the idea hasn't quite left me since I read it.

Maybe I'm mixing up the various Rings of Power with Captain Planet.

Me too. I liked the planet ring idea when I read it. Also made me think of Men in Black

Strangely, it didn't make me think of Men in Black. I think my allusion sensor is malfunctioning. I usually pick up on the more obscure pop culture and SF allusions, or even make them up on the smallest excuse; yet one of my First Readers just told me my latest story reminded her of The Lathe of Heaven, and I never noticed. I've read the book three times and seen the PBS movie a dozen times, and she's got a point, but I never noticed it at all.

It's Thursday, but very EARLY Thursday in California.

Besides, we don't know if it's THE Thursday. If Hot Fudge Sundae can come on a Tuesdae, ANY day can be Thursday!

Which is a completely valid excuse. But still!

On topic, I'm wondering if the holiday won't delay results until next week . . . ? I know several people that are doing a three or four day weekend this week. wotf017

Remember: the Joni Clone Army has once called a Finalist on the Friday after Thanksgiving. From a convention. A convention that Joni was organizing. No one expects the Joni Clone Army!

I'm headed off to meet the ghost client, where I will be unreachable by phone or computer for the next few hours. Ergo, results will come in about *looks at watch* oh, 30 minutes.

And if we do hear today, this could either be the best - or worst - day of my writing life so far.

Note to those prattling on about holidays and three or four day weekends: That kind of talk is what gets people smacked upside the head with a halibut. Just sayin'.

Thanks to everyone for the congrats. Been lurking here awhile as the quarter went on. Feel a little like a bridesmaid but it was my first entry to this contest, so I really can't complain. Looking forward to the critique as I'd run out of ideas for revising this particular story. Congrats to the other semi-finalists when they roll in and to Kary as well!

It sure has been an interesting quarter!
