Well believe it or not, I'm actually doing some work for a change. So I'm not focused on WOTF, focused on doing job stuff (which you know what that is).
For there is death in the sound of it, and a glamorous fatality, like silver pennons downrushing at sunset, or a dying fall of horns along the road to Ronceveaux.

This would be somewhat more believable if you weren't posting about it on the WotF forums :)

That I'm doing work? Well I am, plus posting. I'm just more focused on work than the forum. Or at least I should be.

I don't drink foofy latte stuff. Just coffee with cream and sweet and low.

For Q4, the semi-finalists were not sworn to secrecy and they are notified after the finalists. So, I imagine, if we don't know the semi's yet, we probably don't know the finalists yet.
Ahhh, rejectomancy.
And yes, Martin, I'm writing, even as I sit here, camping the forum, I'm writing.

Well, crud. Form rejection arrived in my email today (for my e-submission). The form rejection doesn't insert author name or story title.
I'm a little extra bummed about this one because I thought this one a better fit than most of my submissions to WotF.

I just checked the email, I'm still in. Of course there's still plenty of hours left today to take a direct hit and get blasted.

I haven't received an email yet either, but I doubt the emails are over for the day. There are only two replies on duotrope, and one here. If all the results are really going to be completed in the next 4 weeks, I'd expect that much larger waves would need to be sent out.

Maybe, hopefully we'll see some HM's next week? Seems like we should be close. Not that any of it matters for me as a paper sub it just seems like my own personal fate will be a wildcard.

I'm surprised we haven't heard any reports of HMs. I would have expected them to start trickling out a couple weeks ago. Maybe Joni is waiting to send out all responses that aren't straight rejections at the same time. Except the winners, of course.

I could see that. Maybe even somehow tie it into the PR efforts for the gala, or shortly after.

Has this ever even happened before? Seems to me it's always been waves of rejections with little sprinklings of HMs mixed in. I don't think there has ever been a wave of pure HMs. One complete wave of HMs...hmmm...I hope so. Then a wave of SHMs, SFs and finally...finalists. Those would be some beautiful waves. I hope to ride one of them.
Hard to believe there are no HMs yet. The above scenario is looking more and more likely. Hope everybody's got their armor on. Won't be long now.

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29
In my experience there's been very little consistency. I remember quarters where we had several batches of rejections and then the HMs came at the end. There was at least one quarter when the HMs notifications didn't come out until after all of the results had been posted to the blog. Back when they were nothing but paper subs, the rejections would trickle in even more sporadically (I assume because, even though they went out in batches, shipping times vary, so if you lived in California you got your mail from the contest before I did on the East coast).
Rejectomancy with the contest is particularly difficult, because their methodology seems to change each quarter. (Or at least it's tweaked each quarter.)

by JSHill » Fri Apr 06, 2012 7:44 amDid anyone else get an email fron Joni saying their entry did not win in the 1st quarter of 2012? I didn't even enter in the first quarter, hmmm. I did go back and chec to make sure.
Anybody notice the above posted in the Jibber Jabber Q2 forum? Another tidbit of interesting data for our Rejectomancy...

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - 29
Here, it's my turn to stir the pot...
See that 143-day rejection on Duotrope? It's all out of order with the rest of them, which have been more or less proceeding from early entries to late. I wouldn't be surprised if that was:
A) an Honorable Mention, or
B) an early paper sub
C) an almost HM that was put aside, reconsidered, then rejected (no clue if that actually happens)
Arguing against the paper sub hypothesis is the fact that the reject came on a day where we know there were email rejections, too. One would think snail mail rejects might show up a day or three *after* the main wave.
Do with this what you will. :D
