OH MY GOD, WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!

(It's a very strange thing to be making "she broke the internet" jokes, using the internet to share the jokes, and linking to internet video to provide background on the jokes. Too meta for me this morning...)

As of this morning, I'm still in. Still waiting.
For there is death in the sound of it, and a glamorous fatality, like silver pennons downrushing at sunset, or a dying fall of horns along the road to Ronceveaux.

The only easy day was yesterday.

Results-wise, I don't think we'll see another batch of Rs, mush less HMs and up, until next week. Tuesday night seems to be the earliest, with Weds and Thurs being more likely.

Me, I could say I'm still in but it's meaningless as I know she hasn't even read me yet (she does paper dead last).

Yeah, I think we've got a wait ahead yet. Keep in mind that there are TWO busy people involved in results:

1. KD has to evaluate the stories; but KD has to edit the anthology.

2. Joni has to distribute the results; but Joni has to plan the gala.

As always, I'm trying to fill the waiting time with writing. Next stop: Mars!

And in Q4, there was a +/- two week gap where no results came out at all. Sigh! So the feed could be silent for weeks. And I rather expect it to go dark during the workshop and gala, too.

<inigo> I hate waiting. </inigo>

I've lately been feeling the novel itch. I may finally turn "Scramble" into the novel it was always intended to be...

I've been trying to get something in under the deadline for Q2, but the first draft isn't even complete and my characters just won't shut up! I think they're subplotting my story into a novel as well. Ten more pages and I'll have to shove them in a drawer for another six months. Hate to miss Q2. (I'm here just for a short break to check for HM's then back to writing.) :)

No one can precisely define "too soon", because of so many variables. No two quarters are exactly alike.

But as a matter of historical record... It was a year ago Wednesday (give or take a day, since I didn't record the precise date) that I got my Finalist call for Q1 last year. I remember ALMOST precisely, because Joni said in the call to make sure I submitted to Q2 as well, and I suddenly realized that left me only 3 days to get something ready. It might have been 2 days, but I'm sure it wasn't 4. I'm sure it was 3 or 2, and most confident about 3.

Well I say too soon because of the awards show coming up and the fact we haven't heard of HMs or semi-finalists yet. Or at least I haven't heard.

Seems to me they are holding off on HMs this quarter, rather than sending them out with rejections. So it might be that all the placement results (excepting maybe Finalist) come out in one fell swoop.

Semi-finalists find out AFTER the finalists do. I can pretty much guarantee you. Once HMs start coming out, we're all doomed. DOOOOOOOMED I say.

Usually we hear from KD at some point about sending boxes back to Joni.

After a restful weekend, I'm prepared once more for my late night email/duotrope/forum watching.

Will it be tonight, tomorrow night, Wednesday night, Thursday night...

My main hope is that I find out about the next wave via duotrope/forums rather than an email since it seems only rejections are being emailed out at this point.

I wonder if this will act as a curse, and my email will arrive tonight?

Sounds like a good bet to me. Not sure about HM's from the way the quarter has been going, but I think there will be another round. The question is, will it be the last.

Hmm, we'd best dig ourselves in then.

*refreshed the stock of brownies, tequila and root beer floats*

Just in case the wave hits early, ya know.

And, since this song has been stuck in my head ever since this thread was renamed, I figure it's time to spread it around a little. When I read this thread, especially on results days, I hear...

Listen to the rhythm of rejection rain
Telling me just what a fool I've been
I wish that it would go and let me cry in vain
And let me be alone again

Oh, listen to the falling rain
Jibber jabber, jibber jabber
Oh, oh, oh, listen to rejection pain
Jibber jabber, jibber jabber

And yes, I'm old.

Still no HM's reported yet? Really? Oh, I want another so bad, I can taste it. (Doesn't taste at all like chicken.) Of course, I could be persuaded to accept a silver, or a semi, or dare I use the "F" word....a...a...f-f-finalist? There, that did it. I'm persuaded.
Race you to the finish line!
