KD - I'm so sorry to hear you ended up with the bridesmaid's dress again. Next time for sure! And having done it twice, you can be darn sure there will be a next time. :)

Yeah I was not expecting that call yesterday. I wish it had been better news but oh well, there's always next quarter! I'm not giving up til I win or pro out and I'm taking a good hard look at just what markets I even try cracking from now on. I'm a novelist, not a short story writer: winning this contest will probably do more for me than getting a handful of magazine sales...

It's usually three or more weeks of nailbiting for finalists.

As for the time from submission to finalist results - that was long indeed.

Steve

It was actually less than a week. I got the finalist call last Wednesday afternoon (I think--maybe it was Tuesday?), and the second call Monday evening.

So much for Thursdays.

I think making finalist is superb. When I acknowledged my HM email from Joni I happened to remark that I seemed stuck at that level. She replied that if I knew how many entered I'd be puffing out my chest.

Okay so if HMs can be proud, what can finalists be?

Sorry you didn't win KD, but like others have said it's only a matter of time. You've been there twice you'll make it again!

The results did come out very fast, probably since they were so far behind. I just hope we don't have to wait as long for the press release. I mean, we never even got to see a full list of the finalists and now it's over! Was there ever a list for Q1?

That being said, can anyone find a press release for Q1 illustrators? Finalists or winners? I swear I thought I saw a finalist list back in April, but now I can't seem to find anything at all. The reason I ask is because I fear that Q2 results have come and gone, and my submission was lost. And if there are no press releases I'll never really know if it's over. I queried 3 weeks ago and Joni said "not yet but soon," but now I worry she might have mixed up the contests and been quickly replying thinking I was talking about the writing. I guess I've just given up at this point, trying to admit defeat. But I don't want to bother her and query again. I did submit on the last day and it seems like people who submitted on the last day for the writing also never heard anything, so possibly a glitch?

I don't think there was ever a list of finalists made public until after the winners were announced last month. And I don't remember ever reading anything about the Q1 results for the illustrators side of things, but I haven't been keeping up with the blog/news feed lately.

Hello everybody,

Sorry I'm a little late to the party. I'm new to the forum and fairly new to the contest, saw the posts here about Q2 and thought I'd join in. I made finalist for Q2 (but no winner - got the call last night). Congrats to all the HMs, Semis, and Finalists! I'm looking forward to the next quarter and getting to know everybody!

Thanks, everybody! I entered Q1 and got an R, but was pleasantly surprised to get the call last week from Joni for the quarter. I'm very excited to have made it this far, still a little shocked actually. I'm used to those Rs. wotf007 Working on Q4 (haven't heard anything Q3 entry yet, but fingers crossed!).

Thanks! I guess I must have been mistaken and seen the results for last year's Q1 and not this year. Which still means Q2 could be over if there are no press releases. Maybe I'll give it another week which will make it a month and then query again.

I spoke too soon! Just got an email saying I'm not a winner for the art. After waiting so long I was really hoping...but maybe it's only because I subbed last minute, so I was one of the last to be reviewed. Ah well now it's time to wait for Q3 and work on Q4. And since the smiley isn't working for me I'll write it out:

Getting rejected sucks!

The way I'm reading Stewart's posts, I'd be willing to bet that he HAS won and isn't at liberty to announce it yet. If the second call that he got was to inform him that he hadn't won, I don't think he would have tried to make us think that he had.

Congratulations to all of the (Winner/s?), Finalists, SFs, SHMs and HMs on the forum. Great showing!

Question for Forumites: Is it proper to query my results? My upbringing informs me that questions of this nature are rude for cultural reasons. However, writing is a culture I'm woefully ignorant of.

For those Rs out there, have you ever heard of Traf-O-Data? It was a tech company that died a grisly death back in the nineteen seventies, a total failure. It was co-owned by a guy who held onto his dream and saw it through: Bill Gates.
