wotf010 Congratulations, Mr. Baker. Would you like to borrow a lightly used pair of...no?

Well done, I'm looking forward to seeing you in print.

It's probably a mistake. I e-mailed Joni about it but whether or not she'll see the e-mail is up for debate.

Congratulations to those who won, finalists, semi-finalists, honorable mentions and all.

Sadly, I doubt I'm going to enter again. I get hundreds of spams, but when I try to find out why I never got an email back on the contest, I am asked if I sent a paper or electronic copy, and then a string of confusing responses that bear no relevance to my queries. I'm thinking it is not worth the headache at this point. I probably just wasted a good story for upwards of half a year for no good reason--I doubt it was even read, at this point. Needless to say, I am NOT a happy camper.

Major bummer, and a totally understandable reaction.

Have you thought about using the contest as a "market of last resort"? Submitting after it's gone to the other places you'd like to see it published will make the screw-ups less painful. (And my winning story had already been rejected three other places, so rejected stories definitely can make it.)

Thanks, Ishmael, Stewart, and Bob.

And thanks, Stewart, for the tip on Unstuck. I checked it out and added it to my list of potential markets. I think the story in question may be too heavy on the SF angle for them, but who knows? I have others that might be a better fit. I'm always glad to know about markets that don't run screaming from longer stories. And what amounts to Slipstream.

This Q2 reject has gotten a bunch of form rejections, in addition to the good ones. It went off to Clarkesworld last night, for its next attempt.

Seems like new markets open up constantly or I find out about them so they're new to me.

Ever hopeful.

I love Unstuck--they're my absolute favourite, and I was very sad when they stopped production this year.

Re. sci-fi, one story in their third issue was 100% SFnal, with the following opening:

Just as they had promised, the Greater People’s Democratic Union left the frozen head of the war criminal Ento DiChang floating a half-lightyear from a tiny, dying star they called Torren’s Lighthouse and we called Torren’s Folly.

Maybe a bit of a Samuel R Delany feel to it, but definitely very SF. :)
