Congrats Matt and HLF! Well done!

Commiserations Jeremy and Jen. Also well done! It's hard to be so very close, but as others have said, it can happen again.

I cannot explain how relieved I was to finally see it in writing. Every time I've told someone about this in the last week, there's been a part of my brain thinking "remember this conversation, you might have to get in touch later and tell them you got the wrong end of the stick/dreamt it all/accidentally lied to them". Didn't help that, thanks to the Hollywood<->UK time difference of 8 hours, it was 2245 when I got the phone call and I'd been asleep an hour!

It seems a long list this time; over 150 names there, and as I understand it HM usually represents the top 10% of entrants. Still can't believe my story was selected out of all of those; I know how high a quality a story needs to be to get even an HM, let alone a result above that.

Hey, at last we scored one for this side of The Atlantic.

And we're claiming Stewart as an expat so it really makes two in a row.

So since good things come in threes .....

There was a third place in the Q2 results as well - I already checked to make sure I wouldn't be the only Brit abroad in a strange and foreign land wotf011

And didn't realise s_c_baker was an expat - that's at least 50% odds of bringing the Golden Pen to the proper side of the Big Wet this year wotf007

I was torn from my native land at the age of 8. Cruel, cruel world! Or something.

Anyway, it's made it hard for me to answer the question "Where are you from?" without rattling off a few different places. Which is why my bio usually says I tell people I'm from the Internet... wotf007

Sorry to push up an old quarter thread but I just found out some surprising news...

Back in September I was told that my Q3 Illustrations got Honorable Mention. I thought that was pretty awesome in itself, but then this week I get my certificate in the mail and it said I was a Semi-Finalist! Turns out the email was a mistake! So yeah, wow. Still can't believe I almost made it! I'm so glad they have rankings now because before when I'd only get R's I assumed I wasn't that good. But now that I know I'm so close to making it I will surely keep on submitting in the future!

That would be pretty crazy! Although I thought I remember reading a while back that it has happened before. So I wouldn't be the first to break any record. But I do remember Megan was the first to win both in consecutive years. Maybe I could be the first to win both in the same quarter? Or better yet...win both gold awards.
