I got the first cut email too. If it's true that Dave's going to try and send out results before the gala, I think the next couple of weeks are going to be full of twitching. I must admit I have missed the twitching (been over a year since I haven't gotten knocked out in the first round!)

Good luck to those remaining. Here we go...

Out today. Mine is one of The Grinder reports.
Best of luck to everyone still in the running.
Last year I received a first cut message in Q1 and received an HM later, just for another data point.

Randy Hulshizer wrote:Everyone waiting for results probably got the same email, which came through this afternoon:

You are getting this e-mail because you made the first cut and your story is on hold (still being judged). Our coordinating judge is working as fast as he can to try to have the results done before he comes to Los Angeles to join us for the annual awards event (for last year's winners) on the 10th of April.

I wanted you to know that we may take a bit longer time for this quarter results just because we are all working on the big event coming up.

I hope you understand. I'll get results to you as fast as I can.

best,

Joni Labaqui

I resemble that remark. Got that email today, too.

*shrug*

We'll see how it goes from here. Good luck to everyone who's still waiting. :)

Got the e-mail as well. I'll admit, I'm happy since I never made the first cut before.
Admittedly, this is only the third time I send a story in, but things are looking up. It's sunny outside and the birds are chirping. Now if only I didn't have an exam in a few hours...

For rejectomancy purposes and the purpose of Stephanie's list, I submitted mine on December 24 and got the first cut email.

For the record, got the first cut email as well, so still in. Best to those still hoping, condolences to those that are out, but there's always another quarter. And no, that doesn't make it any easier, but who said this was going to be easy? : )

Oh, duh, submitted December 31st, really early this time, like two minutes before close instead of within the last seconds like usual. I think I'm the reason they changed the final submission time. : )

Hmm, you guys got first cut emails? No R here yet but no email either. I was an HM last round and never got an email until the HM was given.

Hmm.

They seem to be somewhat arbitrary. I'm fairly sure people in previous quarters have had the same problem.

They also sometimes end up in the spam folder, so make sure to check there!

Yes, check first, but if you don't find it, you can query Joni. She's pretty gracious about checking on things like that.

I was HM on my first round and didn't get a 2nd cut email. I'm trying not to let this email get my hopes up, but today being Thursday and all, I'm feeling especially twitchy.

A small part of me was hoping he'd be able to finish. The email did say he was working hard to try and have results done before coming to LA, but I knew it probably wouldn't happen. And so I live to twitch another day...or weeks...or months.

I have tried to remember but I don't recall ever deciding where to send my story next. But after I cut some of the stuff in the first section I decided on BCS, then F&SF.

I haven't touched it yet since I have been working on Q2 and getting my next Indie novel ready to publish. My third one.

But 2 is in and so will need to get on that the story. Hopefully it won't t make long.

Well, the opening of my story wasn't what I was trying for. With the many redo-s and moving sentences around and such I must have forgotten a detail or two.

I still think it wasn't bad especially when compared to a couple of stories that I write five+ years ago I have recently revised, but probably not what Dave was looking for either.

Two people here would be able to say if I am right about the not bad part.

I almost want to resend but I have two places to send it first-maybe three.

Modified plans. I will be posting it on the universe annex slush thread first. See what improvements Edith suggests. And hopefully let her see that I can do better than many of the shorter stories I have posted there.

Of course that is a big hopefully, a couple of those stories should have been better but weren't. The second to last story I posted there she pretty much said she didn't think a lot of the writing. Someone here agreed with her.

If it goes better than that one did I may just revise it and post it again but we shall see what she says.

Then it will go to BCS--hopefully the pacing is faster than the last two I sent there.

Hahaha yes I know. I guess I'm just extra twitchy because I already found out I'm a finalist for a different contest (unrelated to this one and it's for my art). And I'll know specifically if I've won on April 27th. Which is the exact day last year that results for this quarter came out. Guess it's just too much!
