Good luck, Rebecca and Athena!

Is it weird that I'm not that bothered about whether or not I actually get the grand prize? I mean, the $6k is nothing to sneeze at, but I'm so over the moon about being published that getting the grand prize would just be gravy. If I was given a choice between taking $10k and having my story in the anthology, I think I'd choose the latter.
And this is even sillier, but frankly I'm sort of relieved that I'm not eligible to submit anymore. This is a wonderful contest but it's time for me to finish my book!

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33
For me, the timing of this announcement couldn't have been better.
A few months ago, Baen notified me they were holding my novel for further consideration. I'm hoping the publicity from this win might increase the likelihood they decide to purchase it. After all, buying a novel is as much a commercial decision as it is a literary one.

Good luck! I feel like the publicity from WotF might help with Baen in particular; both are still fond of a certain type of heroic genre fiction.

Huge congratulations, Mr Stein & Mr Hazlett! Welcome to the club
And congratulations also to Rebecca & Athena, because hot dang, you made finalist. That's huge. I know this is gonna sting right now, but once you're at this stage, it is entirely down to the judges' taste. Every one of the 32 finalists in a year is good enough to win the whole shebang. This says nothing about the quality of the work, and is all about the judges Joni had for this quarter.
And dstein--you say you're not bothered about the big prize, but when you're sat there at the gala, and the red envelope is brought out, your heart will be pounding like Mjolnir on the unrighteous. Trust me

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33
Congratulations Sean and DStein. Following the jibber jabber threads I've seen how you have both worked your tails off (well maybe indirectly surmised...)
One more reason to look forward to the anthology! I hope you will all continue to drop by from time to time to share stuff you have learned.

Joni told me that the other two winners were from Utah and Durham, U.K.
My apologies, dstein, but I can't recall if you were from Utah or the U.K.

Unless the gin is misleading me (seriously, Wednesday night is a bad time for this), I wanna say I'm from Utah?
Seriously though, yeah I'm from Orem UT, so process of elimination locates yet-to-be-named winner #3 at Durham.

Glad to know there will be at least one person to make good use of the kettle I made ASI drag out of the cupboard so Rachael & I could have proper boiling water for our tea

Re: Jibber Jabber - Q1 - Volume 33
Congratulations Sean and D Stein. Will you put your results in the results thread, or is there some forum etiquette that winners don't do that?
Athena and Rebecca, so close! So so close! What horrible rollercoaster ride this quarter must have been. I bet at least you'll be able to take both those stories and turn them into a great sale (if they're not published finalist of course).

Do you think they'll ever post the Q1 results to the blog like they used to? Seems like they haven't posted anything there for a long time.

I think the point is that they usually do not divulge the titles of first place stories until after the Golden Pen winner has been chosen.

I suspect Joni will be rather... frantic when she finds out it's been posted like that (it's not her behind the social media stuff). I left a comment questioning it on the Facebook post, and if it doesn't change in a few hours I'll send some emails...
