Let's do a giveaway wotf007

One free signed copy to a random name plucked from my subscriber list. Which means all you need to do is sign up to my newsletter, which hasn't, as yet, had any newsletters sent, so we're not talking a big burden on you here. Literally all I ask for is your email address, and not even that twice. I trust you to type your email out correctly wotf013

Tell you what--if I hit 50 entrants (which is easy to tell, as there are currently two people on my list, and one of those is me for testing purposes*), I'll send out one of my copies signed by near enough everyone. I only have two of those left, so that's pretty big for me.

Running for a week, so I can announce on launch day. Tell your friends!

*astonishingly, the other isn't my mother.

I tried to sign up twice, but did not receive a confirmation link. I was extra careful the second time and triple checked my email address.

Edit: Got both after an hour. Sorry for the impatience. (Only confirmed one.)

I suspect my webhost is a bit stingy with emails and throttles them. At least they get there eventually wotf017

On the plus side, the backend appears to be clever enough to recognise duplicate sign ups, so no worries about completing the form more than once, and it should only email you the once when I start newslettering :)

eARCs should be landing today, one way or another [grumbling redacted]. There'll be 4 eARCs, each with three stories in, and different people will have different eARCs to send out. You get an eARC if you promise to post a review on Amazon on launch day :) and if you're clever and track us all down, you could probably collect all four and get to read almost the entire book before launch...

If anyone would like an eARC that contains my story and two others, please let me know - shoot me a private message with your email address and I'll send it to you, in the hopes you'll leave an honest review on May 3rd!

I have eARCs. We all do. wotf008

Each of them has three stories in, 1 F & 2 SF, to give you a nice mix, and has the first scene from my winning-all-the-things story.

If you want one from me, drop me an email at mattdovey@gmail.com. I'm giving out eARC D; if you want to try and collect the others, you'll have to work out who's giving them out ;)

All we ask is that you leave an Amazon review on launch day (you won't be able to beforehand). It doesn't have to be glowing, 5-star, or anything you don't feel honest in saying. If you think it's terrible and want to give it 1 star, we honestly won't hold it against you. If you accept an eARC and then don't have time to read it and post a review, that's fine too! We only ask that you try. Review numbers were hammered home over & over again as one of the most important parts of a successful launch day, so we're just trying to build that up.

Anyway. Enough waffle. Free eARC samplers: ask away wotf013

EDIT: eARC D is the one with Kate's story in. So, er, we're both giving away the same one. I'm sure others will be along later to offer others, though :)

Here's a question that may have been covered elsewhere but for everyone who made it into this volume - did you receive any feedback on your story and/or were given suggested edits/changes?

We did! Can't speak to anyone else, but my changes were fairly small - word choice, a few repeated tics I have, shoring up some weak verbs, adding light description to a few spots. Nothing that changed the story.

The stories are all edited before publication, but like Kate, I had nothing major in mine--"use a specific tree here, not just 'tree'", "what's the weather like right now?", "stop using 'looked' as a character action" etc. The biggest change to mine was to add some sound in at the climax--literally just a background hum wotf007 (it'll make sense when you read it, I promise).

OTOH, I think Sharon Joss had a whole subplot added to hers in V31.

The Golden Pen is judged pre-edits, as another little factoid for you.

BTW - finished reading the e-arc Katie sent me. Great stuff there and Katie yours was almost a novella! It had great pace and characters. wotf010

Well thank you, OldDarth! It was almost 15,000 words long and novellas start somewhere around 17.5 - so yes, it was almost a novella! Technically it's a novelette. (Not sure why there are all these categories for story lengths, anyway...)

Hope you'll post a review on Amazon or Goodreaders or some other retail site come Tuesday! Every review helps!

After getting an eARC from Matt I read everything there.
How come only part of your story is available Matt?
Really enjoyed your story KD.
Where can I get another eARC?

ASI didn't want to give mine out for free because it's the shiny shiny Golden Pen story. They were up for just including the first three paragraphs, but not a lot happens in my first three paragraphs, so I chucked the whole first scene in instead :) (plus it ended on a page break; it was meant to be).

The eARC ToC's are:

eARC A: Jon Lasser, Julie Frost, Christoph Weber
eARC B: Stewart C Baker, Stephen Merlino, Ryan Row
eARC C: JW Alden, Sylvia Anna Hivén, Rachael K Jones
eARC D: is the one Kate & I are handing out :)

So if you can find any of the people in any of the others on twitter, I'd ask them ;)

Tomorrow is release day! Hope you're all going to get a copy and read our stories. I may be biased but every story in this anthology is excellent, in its own ways!

And this is blatant pleading but if you can, please leave us a review on Amazon/Goodreads/B&N/etc. Even just a "I read this book and it had stories in it" review will help us in the rankings!

Launch day! :D

To celebrate, I've put the rest of the art up on wotf32.com. Go drool!

Those of you who read eARCs: firstly, I hope you enjoyed them! Secondly, reviews are the best thing you can do to help us. Doesn't matter how good the rating, how short the text, so long as a review is submitted on Amazon it helps us. (Goodreads is also good.)

Mostly, though, I just hope you all enjoy the book. I'm inordinately proud to be in this volume with these people. I think it's the best WotF yet, even accounting for my natural bias. And now our volume is launched, we pass the torch on, because it's up to you lot now to write even better stories to keep on raising that bar. And you're up to that challenge, I know you are wotf009
