Finalists: When did you receive The Call?

Postby dantzel » Thu Apr 21, 2016 8:25 pm

This seems like a good bit of info to try to acquire from the finalists/winners.

When did you receive The Call and what time zone were you in? Does Joni respect time zones or does she call at particularly odd times?

My first call ("you're a finalist") was an email, because Joni couldn't work out how to use the international dialling code. Erm. It was 17:15 UK time on a Saturday, which would have been 9:15 LA time.

My second call ("you're a winner") was at half ten at night on a Friday after I'd been asleep for an hour, so, er, no, Joni is not particularly conscious of timezones, as she hadn't realised what time it was for me when she rang.

3rd quarter entry; email was 12th September, phone call was 1st October, so about three weeks.

First finalist call: about 2 pm EST on a weekday
Don't remember when the "not a winner" call came

Second finalist call: just after 5 pm PST on a weekday
"Not a winner" call: sometime around 2pm the next week

Third finalist call: 2 pm PST, weekday, again
"Not a winner" call: 6:45 pm PST, while I was at Buffalo Wild Wings

"Published finalist" call: about 3 pm PST, Monday Feb 1.

My first Call was on a weekend. I'm pretty sure, because I was home, and it was during the day. The follow-on call to tell me that I hadn't won but that JERRY POURNELLE LOVED MY STORY was also a weekend during the day. I remember because I was working from the writing porch on a warm spring day.

My second Call was V29Q1. That was our broken quarter, so I don't think it serves as a useful example.

My third Call came during my work day, probably early morning Joni's time. And the follow-on call to tell me that I had won was another work day, before lunch in my time. I know, because I went out for gyros to celebrate.

First one was on Labor day (USA). 10:00pm EST.
September 5th or so.
Q3
Joni apologized for calling so late. I told her she could call 24/7

Cut to:

Second call. Friday 11:45pm EST.
December 14th.
Q4
I hung up on her (oops!).
Called back Monday 2pm, around 5 minutes after I received a call from a buddy congratulating me on being a finalist. And he wasn't one, and I was the first one called. Seriously, he just knew - and called to say as much. wotf013
