I was hesitant about submitting to this quarter, but I've been so pushed back by other things that I didn't get anything in for the earlier quarters. I ended up submitting a story I'm not unhappy with, but I'd probably rate it weaker than my three previous entries, if I was looking closely at it. I have two others ongoing, but neither is complete yet, nor in anything close to a state where I'd be happy sending them in.

Hopefully I'll get one or both of those done in time for the next couple of quarters, though.

Did an edit on my Q3 HM. Got a rejection from Clarkesworld and then F&SF on it, and giving it another try this quarter. Resubmitted today.

I just sent mine. Thanks to Emily it should be clean of typos and nitpicks at least. This one though didn't have a lot of them though. Maybe because I had sent it in once before. I say at least fifty percent of the ones that were there were made when I rewrote the opening and revised certain sections.

I did a bit more work on it just before I sent it. I realized that the setting wasn't quite complete so moved a sentence and deleted another one where it had been.

Oh god. It says the applications are closed. It's 3pm here in GM10+ (Sydney) on the 30th and they've closed down.

I've emailed Joni (I think?), but now I'm seriously worried. Any advice?

Haha, seriously? Again? You are well within deadline--that's about 24 hours early, it's only just gone 1am LA time on 30th September. Is that every quarter this year the portal has shut early?

Did you just attach it on the email to Joni? That'll count as an entry. You'll be fine.

I'm having this problem too :( I'll email Joni.

But Jeremy, I think we'll have to resign ourselves to a long and painful wait this quarter. Didn't the Q2 email subs hear back [i]after[i] the finalists?

PANIC STATIONS.

I submitted to Joni, using her joni author services dl, and I haven't heard back with a confirmation.

However, at the same time I also responded to her email about my Silver, which is it turns out is on the straight author services email. I DID get a response from this.

And now I hear the portal is back. Do I:
* Fwd my submission to the other DL,
or
* Submit to the portal and send a follow up email explaining I submitted to the portal (Hoping that I am not disqualified for submitting more than once).

What do you think?

I chose the second option. A confirmation immediately appeared in my inbox from Joni, so closely on the heels of the 'submit' button that I'm not sure which vector it came through. Fingers crossed it all works out! At least they definitely have it.

On a more cheery note:

I WAS ON A PANEL WITH DAVE YESTERDAY!!!!

I put myself down on the romance panel at Conflux. I didn't expect to get on it, there must not have been a great deal of interest from more qualified parties. Imagine my surprise and delight to see Dave arrive and sit near me!

I will give a full update on the weekend after it is over, but if anyone has any Qs for Dave, shoot them through!

I wasn't going to submit this quarter. Or, for that matter, the previous two. At nearly the last minute, I changed my mind. I have some stories that were accepted for a future anthology. The anthology has been delayed, and at this point it looks like it may not be happening.

One of the stories feels perfect for WOTF. So I'm wthdrawing it, and got it in just under the deadline.

Happy twitching everyone. Now back to my novel, already in progress.

Made my first submission in over three years on September 23rd. Revised one of my old HM's as I didn't have time to get anything new ready. Worst that can happen is I revised it into an R :) Currently writing something new for the next quarter.

I have mixed feelings about mine.

I like the original story and I still think it is some of my better writing, except I was never really satisfied with the opening. It had every thing it was suppose to have but in a way that didn't feel strong. I would say amateurish but most of us are amateurs.

It's better now but we shall how much better. I also revised a few sentences here and there, not many and only single sentences, again we shall if how I changed things made it that much better.

Usually I would feel like I expect a R but the last two HMs were on older stories with redone openings, which means-maybe.
