Oh yeah, I've had way worse too! Comes with the territory, I guess. wotf001 I'm just at the point of: it's not going to win, so I wish I could be sending it out to some places that might actually want it. But that's just me being impatient. wotf013

I am out, even though they tricked me with that header or lack thereof.

Should have expected it but not on the first day of rejections.

Just realized I couldn't remember which story it was but I thought I really worked on it.

Oh yeah that one-shakes head I did work hard on it but then again how ever much I work on it it is still my writing,

Thought about sending it to F&SF but I have to wait two more weeks, of course my last story there didn't get a comment but maybe this one. Not sure where else. All of the ones I would normally go with have stories from me. I should be getting a couple of those back soon. Hmm, does either Analog or Asimov take steampunk?

A lot us here in the early R's this time around. Well at least I know not to send the type of story I did to the contest again. Got tips sent from Joni. Uhm, well, those wouldn't have worked for what I was doing.

I guess we can all wallow in our commiserations together.

Guys, this quarter I resubmitted my first ever WOTF entry, which received a first round rejection. At the time I was devastated, thinking that a first round rejection must be a reflection of my talent.

Obviously I know better now, and in most ways I have the forum to thank for that.

The piece has been heavily critiqued and revised since then, so I am insanely happy/relieved that it cleared the first round rejections this time around. Here's hoping it clears the next few waves as well.

Because I wasn't in the first wave, I am now presuming my entry has been mislaid and I will receive my rejection after winners have been and gone.

People have, on occasion, accused me of pessimism >>

Ahem. Those of us who submitted on October 4th seems to have been omitted from the list.

I just thought I'd try doing a Martin. wotf013

Commiserations to the early R's. (Thursday strikes again, huh?) On the other hand you do get to turn them round and be faster on the resubmission trail than anybody else. Good luck!

The smallness is surprising from here. Most of you guys-gals are good writers-at least.

No way to know for sure but I always get the idea that if my story is rejected in the first round he didn't get past the opening. But I would be surprised if that was true for all of those from here that were rejected. But it is possible or maybe this is like two or three waves put together. In that case he may have read further for most of the r-s this time.

I am used to being in the first wave with Dave so it looks like even though one editor liked my opening Dave didn't. If he did get through that he probably didn't get much beyond it.

The Grinder suggests this was a big wave. If my count is correct more than half of the logged entries were rejected last week. Bearing in mind that The Grinder is only used by a relatively small proportion of entrants and all of them take their writing seriously, I'd guess LD is right in suggesting several waves rolled into one.

No way of knowing how far Dave read unless he tells us, but even from the limited forum sample it's obvious some big hitters struck out.

And next Thurswednesday is the Ides of March.

I agree that was a really large wave. That said, I'm betting we won't hear anything further until after the workshop week and awards gala.
