Hi all! I was one of the 3/31 email entries. This was my first entry to anything like this, so I was expecting my "R", but haven't heard anything. According to greenroom, the email entries were not in the first wave of R's. Do we know if those are still forthcoming?

I'm in the same boat. First ever entry. Email entry. Bunch of nothing. Guess we'll all be waiting for the next wave wotf009

Yeah, I don't feel like emailing to confirm because there were a couple emails back and forth with Joni when I submitted. That tells me I wasn't directed to a spam folder, at least.

I know I have a solid story and would be thrilled with an HM. Maybe I should send it out to some more beta readers to boost my confidence.

That's true. I had two stories I floundered with this past quarter for a couple reasons. (One had cultural issues that needed more research and didn't get passed the outline. The other unsuccessfully justified itself as a sci fi title). After not finishing, I got stuck thinking about the last submission instead of the next.

Alternatively, wait until you get your results, since you can't do anything about it now, and THEN send it to beta readers so you can edit for resubmission. Just make sure you are also working on something new so you're not just spinning your wheels on one story. My rule for myself is at least half of my submissions have to be new stories.

This is my first entry as well and I about had a heart attack when I got the email saying the submission portal closed early. Thankfully Joni is super nice and left a window open for us! I've been obsessively checking my inbox and spam folder since mid-April...the suspense is driving me nuts. But I think I'm at least in good company :)

I'm actually a bit bummed. I'd really hoped to go all the way with this story. I really don't know what else I can do with it to improve it. And I don't think I want to submit it elsewhere yet, and shut out my few chances to sell a novelette.

I get that feeling. My last three stories were SHMs, and I really hoped I'd pass the bar with my last entry. Don't give up hope, though. If you don't want to send it elsewhere, you can always trunk it for a bit and give it another look in a few months. You could also ask for fresh eyes on the project. Don't give up on the story, though. Just because it didn't make it here doesn't mean it can't make it elsewhere. wotf030 wotf041

RuiMiguelCid wrote:I got an SHM this Quarter. Not gonna lie. Im feeling pretty crushed about this result. I though I d finally land something above HM territory.

An SHM is the step above a basic HM, though. It's just shy of semi-finalist, and means your story was probably in the top 1% or so. There's usually no more than 30 to 50 listed on the blog, and it's usually closer to the 30 range. Only 17 were listed last quarter, but they have this new thing where you have to tell them you want to be listed now; I'm probably not the only one who missed the window on that. I totally get where you're coming from, but don't lose hope. You're close. Keep trying! wotf009 wotf024

So, it's rather obvious none of us email/paper people have our results yet -- unless there's a lurking finalist among the email/paper results. I'm not one, but as I'm not omniscient, I can't rule out that one of the others might be.

There are also five people (the ones in italics) who should have heard back already, but who've yet to report here. Late reporters or lurking finalists? Hmm...
