Someone said paper submissions wait longest. And I think Joni said for email subs that she prints them and gives them to DF for judging, so I'd guess that we're all last wave folks.

So, it's rather obvious none of us email/paper people have our results yet -- unless there's a lurking finalist among the email/paper results. I'm not one, but as I'm not omniscient, I can't rule out that one of the others might be.

There are also five people (the ones in italics) who should have heard back already, but who've yet to report here. Late reporters or lurking finalists? Hmm...

oh yeah, no I tots got an R back in the first wave of 'em. I think I was too bummed to note it when it first happened, sorry!! wotf008

Hey guys, sorry about the late update.

I got a HM for my Q2 submission, which upon looking at it makes perfect sense. There isn't much strength in terms of character motivation/depth, so I definitely need to do some revisions before I send it out to other markets.

Working on some drafts for Q4 and waiting for my Q3 results.

Good luck to everyone still in the running!

I think you're right, Brittany. Email submissions are, sadly, paper (That leafy stuff that comes in the mailbox). Joni has to physically receive and match them with their author info sheets (Which she generated herself in her infinite kindness) in order to act upon them. At least, that is my understanding.

Hail Joni! wotf024 Hail Joni! wotf024

I wonder how much longer us email subs get to twitch. I suspect only people here in the forum are emailed, and there's a fair amount of them. I wonder how many people still mail in.

If it's anything like the quarter I got Finalist, all Finalists have already gotten the call--same day as the flood of latest results. But that was an unusually fast turnaround Joni had said at the time.

I'm hoping for an HM with the story I submitted for Q2, Vol 34. wotf007

Good luck to all waiting to hear back, and good luck to those who might have already gotten the call. wotf007 wotf007

First, congratulations to those that got honors. It means you are writing at a level that an NYT bestselling author feels obligated to acknowledge. It's the equivalent of an editor at a pro magazine saying, "This one didn't quite do it for me, alas, but please send me your next." Well done. (And kudos if you can name the pro editor that peronally typed "alas" on his rejections well over 100,000 times. You get a Scooby Snack.)

Second, one could argue SHM is the most useful rejection you can get towards winning this contest. You see, rejected finalists are burned, semis get a critique and are burned, but an SHM can be revised and resubmitted. *That's* the story to get some other eyes on, and your beta readers should be more published than you so you can get some wise feedback. So don't knock an SHM, embrace it and give it a big wet kiss.

Third, and I say this with all kindness, don't look for readers to build your ego, that's your mom, spouse, significant other, goldfish. Look for beta readers that are going to be brutally honest, because we are all making new writer mistakes. It's why we are here, trying to figure it out so we can advance. Again, try to find somebody that has some pro sales...they at least know how to craft a story that sells. And that's what all of us are most likely seeking, so we can have a larger audience for our stories than mom, spouse, significant other, goldfish.

Finally, put me down for email sub on the 30th. Rumors of my resurrection have been greatly exaggerated. : )

Fortune favor the brave.

My wait is over. HM. Methinks if you've written a political thriller about being betrayed by your government AND you're still waiting, you should chill some champagne.

Cheers!
