I don't think I've really introduced myself yet, but I submitted by snail mail on March 31 for Q2. I just heard back on the 8th by email, though I didn't see it until the 9th. My first entry, and I got a SHM! I knew it wasn't perfect, but I'm glad I submitted it anyway. I'm kicking myself a little for not submitting for Q3, but I will be submitting for Q4.

Congrats, everyone, on learning experiences achievements! wotf009

Any word on semi-finalists? Do they usually take longer to come out? There's usually 2 or 3 forumites who report one and I haven't seen any yet.

Hypothetically, if someone submitted via email and has not yet received any sort of results via email from Joni/the contest, should said person be concerned that there is an issue in the line of communication or should they be excited because no news is good news?

Asking for a friend that is twitching her way down the rabbit hole...

I'd suggest having your friend email Joni to ask about her result. I'd assume, at this point, that most all results would have gone out.

Joni is very open to queries about things, and usually responds within a day or two.

I know in the past there have been issues contacting some people, so following up at this point is probably prudent (as well as useful for maintaining one's sanity).

Thank you! Due to a momentary lapse in sanity (and twitching) I started referring to myself in the third person. 8) Thankfully some of my sanity has been restored. Off I go! To sit and wait some more... Oh boy.

RaeSnow - I'm in the same boat (emailed entry, no results yet), so I'm relieved to know I'm not the only one who hasn't heard back at this point. My guess is that Joni hasn't had time to relay results to all of us who submitted via email, so I'm planning to wait a bit longer before I query. I assume that all finalists have been called at this point, so no news is probably non-winning news. I would love to be wrong about this, of course. ;)

I'm still waiting too. I emailed Joni at the start of the month and she said results would come soon--then came the waves but my email is still silent. I'd hate to bug her again but I am beginning to really think mine got lost. wotf014 I'll wait a little longer. She's got to be swamped.

I just emailed her. I hate doing it, but it seems like the forum agrees that it's not a problem for Joni. I kept it very straight to the point, as she doesn't need to read the story of my life or a million apologies, haha! I'll let you know when she responds.
I assume I won't be too disappointed if my story did get lost. It was solid, but I didn't have time to edit it like I wanted.

Thanks for the support people. I was mostly upset because Imy Q2 story was the first story I thought had a chance at getting professionally published. So I sent it over to F&SF so that CC Finley can promptly shatter my illusions lol

Congratulations to all the other participants. In spite of everything, receiving honors in WoTF does count for something and it means that you're almost there.

Thank you, everyone! I'm so excited! I got a voicemail from Joni to call her back and I could hardly believe it. Now I'm glad I have the voicemail because I've listened to it like a bajillion times. I hoped the last year of intense study would pay off and I'm glad to see that at least with this story, it has.

Onward, writers of mind-blowing worlds and intriguing thoughts! We must keep calm and write on! (says the person who only yesterday wrote new material for the first time in a month, *face-palm*)
