Rejections suck. The cure is writing your next. You still have another quarter to make the ceremony. Tick, tock.

I'm not sure what te average gap between waves is, but last quarter it was 3 weeks between first Rs and the wave with HMs etc ... Then something like 3 days till Amy got her finalist call :)

That would make sense for this quarter as well. They attempt to get notifications out before the next quarter begins. I think they know when we are waiting for imminent results, we tend not to write, and they want to get us over that hump and submitting our best before the door closes again.

Hm. Physician, heal thyself.

Got a call this morning with no caller ID which has never happened to me before. But....they left no message so it couldn't have been Joni. Still, I did not need that extra added twitching!

Ugh, I get so many calls from unknown numbers and area codes I don't recognize. There's going to be a lot of twitching every time my phone rings (well, buzzes, since it's always on silent) until I hear one way or the other.

Damn, bud. Sorry to hear that. I'm also a veteran, U.S. Army, Iraq War veteran, and grew up in San Diego (North Park/Golden Hills area). Now I live in my birthplace of Phoenix, AZ. wotf009

Don't stop believing! Same to all the writers who received Rejections. Even the ones who win the HM, SHM, etc. Keep entering the contest. In the Army, part of our Warrior Ethos is "I will never accept defeat. I will never quit. I will never leave a fallen comrade." So don't give up, don't stop entering, don't stop believing in yourself. Check out Jake Marley's post "Persevere" on the WotF blog. He's absolutely right.

Good luck!

Oh don't do this to me! Now I understand the term twitching. I submitted on the 30th so my R may be coming soon, but I am still alive for now.

The only cure is to write madly on the next one. I didn't expect R's this early. Would everyone consider wave 1 of R's passed?

Should I dare to even hope? haha.

It looks like the first wave is done, yes. It's been about two weeks since it hit.

How many waves of Rejections usually hit per quarter?

Seems like 2-3. Paper submissions seem to get reviewed last and any Rs in that batch appear to go out with the final set of results. Beyond that... {shrugs}?

Today is indeed Thursday. The board consciousness refers to "Thursdays" as the perception that results seem to go out on Thursdays. Not sure if that's likely to increase your twitchiness this afternoon though...

Thankfully I will be at work, and then there is force friday tonight. My significant other and I will be on a Porg hunt. Hopefully twitchiness remains low. No news is good news for another few weeks. I really want my first HM haha.

Turns up Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries."

Because lightning, as a general rule, seems to like Thursdays. After you've been struck a few dozen times, you hunch down on Thursdays, try not to stand next to trees, and wear inflated rubber tires jury rigged to the soles of your shoes if you have to dash out to Walmart.

Some kind of Pavlovian response.

It certainly feels like a Thursday: I half expected to see reports of a wave already.

Thursday is still young out here on the west coast...

I distinctly remember getting my semi finalist e-mail last year at like 3am. I remember because my store was getting a strip and wax, so I had to stay up all night while they did it.

Wow that's late. How many SF spots are there? There are 8 finalist spots right? Then they choose the winners from those.

Yes, there are 8 finalists per quarter. I think there's around 8 SFs, too, but I'm sure if that's a hard number or an estimation at the moment.

Also, the e-mails don't usually come THAT late. But they can. I'm also on Eastern time, so for Joni it was probably around midnight.

Thanks for the info. Sorry for all the questions I am just trying to get a complete picture on all the spots. Right now I know of HM and SHM, then SF and F.

Only the finalists get a shot at going to LA if they are selected each quarter, then at the end of the year one finalist is selected to be a lucky 13th winner and go to LA right?

Of the finalists, three winners are chosen (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place). They go to LA. Sometimes Finalists are asked to hold their piece from submitting it to other markets because, depending on how the anthology shapes up, one or two might be "published finalists." Published finalists are included in the anthology and get to go to LA. I don't think there's a hard and fast formula for how many published finalists there are though.

Published Finalists are chosen if the winning stories would create a lopsided anthology. So, if the majority of winners are fantasy, a SF Finalist story will go into the anthology. If the winners would create a shorter anthology, a longer Finalist will be included. That kind of thing.

Hi everyone! I'm a first-time entrant who discovered this forum about a week ago. Thank you all for the community (even though I've been silent!) I'm unsure of whether I should thank you all for teaching me about twitching and Thursdays, though. Eek!
