That's why I put mine away as soon as I submit it and don't look at it again until I hear back. wotf011

Welcome, Rachel! This is a safe and secure space to deal with WOTF angst, Thursday Syndrome, Quarter Disorder, and a plethora of tics and psychological conditions that medical science has not named yet, BUT THAT WE KNOW EXIST IN OUR REALITY!!!

Have fun! You're not crazy. That would mean all of us are....

And I've never been so happy! I started writing in January because I've always wanted to and this feels like such validation for all the many hours I've devoted in the last eight months! Good luck to those still waiting!

Not too surprised as this was a fairly raw story.

I just got this message:

You missed a call from a Private Number, who said "Hi Kristy Johnny Baki(?) from Raiders(?) the future urgently trying to reach you. I don't know what this means." This message was provided by Telstra at no charge to you.

My first reaction was: "Cool message! No idea what it's about, but I think someone from the future is trying to contact me about something important." Took me five whole minutes to twig!

Looks like we're finalist buds peony, congrats!

Now to figure out how to make the next jump. No time to rest on my current submission.

Congrats to those who have made finalist! Do you got any advice on how to make that leap from HM? All the blog posts seem to point to profundity.

My honest suggestion would be to trade critiques with other forumites. Critiquing someone else's work can help you learn about other writing styles, and receiving critiques can help you realize problems with your own stories. Don't accept or deny critiques outright, though--consider everything carefully. The goal is to write your story, not someone else's, but to write it as best you can.

Thanks for the advice! I did a few for Q3 I hope to do more for Q4. It helped me so much, it's the only reason I got an HM instead of a R.

I need to get my story done so I can start swapping.

disgruntledpeony, mega congratulations! I know you've been working towards this for a while, and your writing's been getting so good recently that you definitely deserve this. Congrats also to KD Julicher and KristyEmber! I hope you aren't kept waiting too long for final results!

Well done to all those who got HMs and SHMs. Keep writing and critiquing!

HM here. I'm in for Q4, but it's beginning to look as though I can't write a DF story and I'm running out of time.

Still waiting too. Glad to see it's not just me. Big congratulations to all the HM, SHM, and especially the finalists.

To the writers with HM and SHM, you can reenter those stories. I discovered this from my correspondence with Joni--an HM and SHM means that the judges have taken special interest in you and your story, so I would encourage these writers to rewrite their stories based on the wonderful advice Mr. Farland et al have offered on the blog, and then reenter.

Good luck!

So excited to see three finalists from the forum! Congratulations, all! Wouldn't it be awesome if y'all sweep the slots?

So, I got an HM for 3rd quarter? ... ha. It's possible that I submitted under a slightly different name so my story wasn't pulled. Kind of cool to still get feedback. Goes to show that an editor's preferences definite affect acceptance--not to say this story didn't need some work. It's just a completely different style from my winning story (YA comedic fantasy romance adventure vs. the winning story of literary sci-fi drama).

Congratulations to Finalists Disgruntled, KD, and if there's a third, I'm missing it! I know you've worked hard at this, and making the cut is well deserved. Best on winning over the panel of judges and making it to the ceremony and workshop.

And conga rats dancing for all the others with honors. For some, it's your first, and that's a good sign of things to come, but mostly that you have honed your skill set. No dull edges! A sharp knife is a safe knife. A sharp knife is a lethal knife. Just ask any sliced pickle.

As for me, still waiting in the brine.

Cheers!

I'm going to take a stab at this. No semi-finalists are listed. I've noted personally that semis come later, as Joni matches up your notice with Dave's critique. So it's possible if you're still waiting, you could be a semi. Or your entry could have gotten lost. Or you have a slow email server. Or a cyber dog ate your response. Or your spam folder grabbed your response.

But maybe you're a semi. : )
