And more to the point, I might have enough emotional energy left to give to my writing again...

So, Q3 or Q4. That's my goal. I don't mind which really, so long as I nail one of them, and get this ball rolling properly again.

I'd love to -- I just have to figure out which 450 I should be sending you...I have 3 stories right now. I may end up sending you all three!

I've been wanting to do the 450 thing for a while -- how do you guys go about doing that, anyhow?

Send me a PM for my e-mail address.
Then send the first 450-ish words of your story!

I recommend saving a new document titled 450-crit or something, then copy / paste into it.
You don't want to cut the story down to 450, then hit save...

Hmm.. I'd originally planned to revise and resubmit my Q1 story, but that plan is out the door. Now there's multiple paths I can take. Decisions, decisions.

Almost finished. Now I want to finish it. If I get myself to just write it could be done tomorrow night.

Shortest story I have sent in in years. Which isn't saying much since most of them have been over 15,000 words and one or two right up to the max.

Starting work on my second draft either today or tomorrow, depending on how good I feel after grocery shopping. (I'm recovering from a medical procedure I had on Monday, so everything's been a bit slow this week. The doctor made me take four days off in a row, and I'm glad he did. I haven't been in agony, but there has been a fair amount of exhaustion and discomfort.)

Sigh

I have three endings. I need to decide which one. I said three but I have a feeling its not a certain one. But I need an ending-I mean the very end-for the other two.

Still shorter than my usual but I no longer am concerned with it being too short for David.

I have three try-fail cycles which I think I may work on a bit more, I think I have figured out how my character will change. I was a bit concerned about that.

Hmm, amazingly enough I think I just finished my story. I wasn't sure how to end it, I still had three ways to go, and I needed the very end. But I decided to look at the story not just think about it. I added a few sentences and, whoa, maybe what is the perfect ending. I typed sixty-five words at most. I still need to go back and do a little revising in a couple of places to show how my MC changes there at the end, but there it is.

I think I've finally decided on what story to send it. Now I just need to finish the meat of the climax (trying to brain storm some new cool twist for the magic system that will wow readers--yeah, brain having a hard time with that one so I skipped it and wrote the end of the climax instead. Well, at least I know where I need the climax to go.) and the resolution. Then begins the editing process. Don't know if I'll have time to send it through Critters though, which is a bummer. Kind of fun to send something new in though. I've submitted to five quarters, but only two stories. Not that I regret it--talk about a heck of a learning curve with each re-submission--but I'm excited to move forward with new material and feel like I'm producing something worthy of submission even after so much of my ignorance and pride was stripped away.

I have mine at the tail end of the queue in critters now. It's going to make it a tight turnaround next month, but at least it's on the short end, so I'm hoping its doable. I could try for mpc, but that will just save me a week...

I've got a Q3 entry mostly ready to go, but waiting for final Q1 results has thrown a monkey-wrench into my ability to polish it up. Worst case scenario, it's a last-minute less shiny entry.

wrote a story for another contest tonight: a much smaller one in more ways than one.

wotf011

Thought about sending it in tonight but can't shake the feeling I need to let it sit for a while just to make sure I don't come up with a new idea and have to change something.

I hope to go over my WotF story this weekend and do any changes that need to be done with the ending.

And I did redo some of that Very short piece I referenced last post. Thought about a good change today at work but forgot it of course. But I changed something anyway. I think it reads better.

It's weird how a lot of my plotting problems can be fixed by talking to my husband. He's good at asking leading questions that still leave me open to explore what I want to do. I've let my story for this quarter sit for awhile because I didn't know what to do with it, but I finally talked about it with him this morning, and I think I've got enough figured out that I can hammer it into shape now.

Finally started the revision. Already changed things in the opening three times. This time though I won't be spending so much time on an opening-if its not what he wants wotf017 Or so I hope.

But today I am procrastinating more than usual for two reasons. I ran out of social media to spend time on so had to work on it. After a fifteen plus minutes got some cold tea and then had to come here to say this.

Well, I worked more on my revision. But didn't send it any stories. For a couple of different reasons but one was that I was trying to make a file smaller for Analog. Sigh Nothing worked so that was a waste of time. Thing is I sent it in already somehow. But they had problems with the file which probably meant I used a format other than .doc. Sigh again.
