NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Welcome Ryan (aka, SiFiMarine) and welcome, Spiraledpen. I think you'll find this forum friendly and information, not to mention entertaining and inspiring. I learned more here about writing than in college...not even kidding. The trick to winning this contest is simple: keep entering! Of course, it helps if make your story unique and creative, well written, with a great hook, an interesting setting, a satisfying ending, fully-dimensional characters and a few more nitpicky things...easy, peasy, right? Good luck and see you on the forums. (Or at the awards ceremony!)

SiFi Marine, welcome aboard! Sounds like you've got a great start to your writing career!
Spiraledpen, welcome aboard! You are sending your story into the contest, instead of just thinking about it. That's a milestone, one you must pass to become a published writer. Well done!
To all the rest, be sure to post in the quarterly topics...it's where most of the chat goes on. Cheers!

Ideas - easy. Stories - not too hard... but fleshing them out into good literature? For me it’s like using sandpaper for Kleenex.
Thanks for the welcome!

I'm very fortunate and lucky to have some pro and semi-pro sales under my belt already. Still, dry spells happen and I'm working on getting my SFWA and/or HWA membership. All in due time.

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Greetings.
I'm Joe Monson. I'm an editor and a writer. I have four anthologies in various stages of work, and the first one comes out in February 2019. It's a space opera and hard science fiction anthology titled Trace the Stars through Hemelein Publications (http://hemelein.com/catalog/anthologies ... the-stars/).
I have one short story ("Napoleon's Tallest Teamster") that will be published in an anthology through Immortal Works, though the publisher hasn't announced when yet. I've submitted once to WotF, so far. I have others that are submitted and in various stages of creation.

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Hey, Joe, you found us! Thanks for accepting my invite! TRACE THE STARS has some great authors in the table of contents, like DAVID FARLAND and KEVIN J. ANDERSON. Nope, no one around here has heard of those guys. : )
Pam and Yvette, welcome as well! As always, do post in the quarter you intend to submit to--that's where all the chat normally happens. This is just a launch platform to welcome new members. And do take up the 4 in 36 challenge, an idea founded last volume by our super secret master of ceremonies, Dustin Adams. And lots of people here will swap mss with you if you want some feedback, just toss it out on the Q you are entering, and members available will help out.
Enjoy the Forum! Leave your knives at the marble entrance columns, and if anyone is planning on backstabbing Caesar, for the love of the gods, PLEASE get his salad dressing recipe out of him first! It's delicious.

Hello~
My name is Ace and I'm very new to the writing contest scene in general ^^;;
I was going to try to enter the fourth quarter of 2018 but missed the deadline, so now I'm aiming for the first quarter ^^ Hopefully plot will just happen this time lmao
I'm more used to writing fanfiction so this'll be my first stab at doing some original work in a long, long time (Like, I think the last proper original thing I did was in 2014?). I'm excited to get back to it though :D

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Welcome, Ace! Nothing wrong with writing fan fiction--one of my pro sales is to Pocket Books' Star Trek:Strange New Worlds 2 ("Seventh Heaven"). But for this contest, of course, it has to be original work, original world. Do post in the Q you are planning to submit in. All the action really happens there.
Have fun and welcome aboard!

Welcome, James. As Kevin J. Anderson once told me, even one HM is impressive, he said they don't give those out lightly. Best of success on your Q4, and don't forget to post to the Q you enter, that's where all the magic happens!

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
So, are introductions a rite of passage?
My name is Amber, and Q4 2018 was my first time submitting to Writers of the Future, although I have known about the contest for ages. It was always one of those things I'd do someday, and then ten years passed! Story of my life, really. Once upon a time I used my craft mostly to write fan fiction, but I stopped all that to put more effort into refining my original work instead. And I'm still working. :/
I'm a graduate of the San Francisco State Creative Writing program, and do contract work for school districts and other educational services when I can scrape up the motivation to go through the application/interview process again. (And again, and again...) I've also got a baby blog over at http://www.writingonthewallpaper.com/.
Nice to meet you all. :D

Welcome, Amber! Introductions are a rite of friendship! Welcome to the Forum! Glad you got the courage to submit last Q. The secret to winning is to enter EVERY quarter. Make it a promise to yourself and your writing. Even if it takes awhile, you will find you have a volume of work to send out to other pro markets like this one. We're all about becoming professional writers here.
Do post to the Q you submit in. That's where the reall chatter, and support, goes on.

Welcome aboard, Linh, and any others I might have missed. You're just in time for the new volume 36 challenges! I see you've already put your hat in the ring! Do post in the quarterly topics, as this is where most of the support goes on. So right now, everyone is mostly chatting in Q1, Vol. 36, although we're still waiting to hear finalist results posted for Q4, Vol.35.
Congrats again on getting an HM. That's a good sign. If that was on your first try, that's a REALLY good sign!

Re: NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!
Hey y'all,
I'm Tarry, Tarry Perry, and it's been years since I've submitted any writing in a contest, but I did place in the top 10 of the last one and was printed in an anthology, so that was cool. I'm currently working on a couple of things, but I've been nervous about breaking into the SciFi/Fantasy area, so I'm hoping that being in this form and contest will help me jump off into the genre. I've had the ideas for years, and that's what I'm going to use in the upcoming 4 in 36, so I'm excited to finally make something of them! I'm in rural Idaho and have 2 very active little boys that keep me busy, but also give me a reason for the much needed break to just write everyday!

Hey Guys! :D
Pen name is Norma Rrae, I live in northern Canada and write all types of genres. I recently found this anthology and fell in love very quickly. I now own 5 prints and look forward to reading your stories in more! (Also hope for you to read mine one day too)
I love writing fantasy the most, dark fantasy with crazy other worldly beasts and creations. Favourite author is Stephen King and I think my writing strongly reflects that.
Have a great day, write on!

'Ollo!
I'm Anike Kirsten, long-time stalker (in cyber time, so about 2 months) recently signed up and figured I probably should hop in with the amount of time I spend on the forum already. I'm from South Africa, living in a semi-desert area. Mostly into SF but I'm getting more into stories that blur between SF fantasy and then some. Reading, that is. Writing is starting to catch up with my tastes.
So hi! Good to be here. Love the vibe of the community. Write on!
