Registration process was a piece of cake! Very streamlined :)

Also, I love the Writers vs. Artists List you used to sort out the bots.

My name is Jim Everill and after being diagnosed with danger of developing diabities, I started writing science fiction as a hobby. I was told that I a pretty bad english student. One teacher actually said that my grammer, spelling, and punctition needed work. She tought that my story writing was were my talent was.

I always loved science fiction and mystrey so when I started writting I wanted try bringing Sci-fi and Mystery togather. I have written a few short stories (even entering one in WTOF). I had the idea when I was listening to Issac Asomiv "Elijah Baley" trilogy. I strated looking for someone to maybe publish and somewhere read that one way to publish is to enter writing contests.

Hi. I'm Jess. I submitted for Q3 this year, and finally got myself on the forum.
(I had some trouble joining the forum when I tried before, but everything seems to have worked out fine this time. And your registration changes worked fine for me, Brad. I like the "drag & drop books" better than the "read unreadable letters," that's for sure.)
Oh dear. I need a signature.
And an avatar.
And probably other things I don't even know about.

I feel naked.

Halloa, all. :)

I've been lurking on the forums for a while now, mostly popping in and being paranoid in the Quarter threads to see whether or not other people have gotten responses. Figured I should go ahead and register, and--after a bit of confusion with the "I am not an automated process" thingy--here I am. (Apparently my Star Wars knowledge is lacking...)

I've been writing seriously since about 2008, and had one story make it to the WotF semi-finals last year. I've also had a few things published or pseudo-published in various places online. All of them save one are flash-length or less.

So... Halloa!

Welcome, Stewart!

You have to answer a Star Wars question to gain admission to the forum now??

It's just as well I'm already here then. I *think* my parents took me to see the first film back in the day, but I believe I fell asleep half way through. :)

When I tried it it was two authors and eight titles, and you had to drag and drop them to the right one.
(Kevin Anderson and Larry Niven, for the record. If his was the same as mine, it had an Anderson Star Wars title.)

I got the book one too--but as I haven't read anything by either author, ever...

Took me three tries to get past those questions.

Mellon! Do I get to play now?

Hi there. My name is Rebecca Birch. I have a story entered into Q3, and am working on Q4.

I've been writing off and on for about ten years and have had one semi-pro sale. Life, in the form of two divorces, threw my writing way off course, but I'm back in a stable place and thrilled to be able to throw myself wholeheartedly back into it.

I'm proud of myself because I have a whole six short stories submitted to assorted markets at the same time. It's a record for me and, while I know it's not a lot, it's a big step in the right direction.

I'm excited to be here and looking forward to getting to know you all!

Welcome, Rebecca! Sounds like you're definitely on the right track -- and if I may say so, submitting a new story to WOTF every quarter (until you win!) should be at the top of your list if goals every year. I think all of us can feel you, on the way life tends to get 'in the way' of writing. Good on you for finding your way back to the battle. Best of luck, and welcome again. :D

Welcome to you, Rebecca!

It might be a big discussion about whether Life is throwing someone's writing 'off course" ... or giving them a treasure trove of experiences and feelings to fuel their Writing! :)

It sounds like you're in a place and with the insights and energies to write NOW though -- and it's never "too late" to write! So go for it -- WOTF is a great place to focus your goals!

NEW USERS! INTRODUCE YOURSELVES!

Postby madison » Thu Jul 28, 2011 11:20 am

Hello, I'm a new user and still trying to find my way around this forum. It was an accident when I stumbled on it, and I can't remember what search term led me here... but I'm happy to have arrived :)

My writing is a blend of fantasy and sci-fi. Some is harder to classify than others. Managed to get a story published in the Cthulhurotica anthology which was definitely writing outside my ordinary lines but was heck of a lot of fun. Another short was accepted by the new magazine Buzzy Multimedia is starting next year, but I had to withdraw it because I remembered I'd posted it a couple years ago to my blog. Sent another one at her invitation and am still waiting for her response. Also have a story on submission to Asimov's and am hoping to crack that and a couple other tough markets this year.

Otherwise, I'm still working the day-job as a metals analyst for a small environmental lab in northwest Arkansas. Glad to meet y'all!
