Discussion: Q3 Volume 35
Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35
I'm out. Just realized I completely failed to do the last revision Saturday and send it in, even though I never got that last critique back-in that case it would have been a quick look over. We buried my Father-in-Law and I was busy with my wife's family. Still could have done it though, except it totally slipped my mind. Didn't think about it Friday either, or Thursday for that matter.
And before people comment about what I was doing. His death was no surprise. He had slipping for a year and more. And after four UTIs-two being really bad and dementia he decided to go on. He still had enough mental capacity to decide that. So we knew it was coming and were ready for it.

Hi Harion,
The Submission Grinder by Diabolical Plots (https://thegrinder.diabolicalplots.com/) is reporting a response average of ninety-eight days. It's really all scientific based on moon cycles divided by the resonance of a strontium atom at seven degrees absolute and then plugged into a predictive circadian algorithm.
Last quarter I got a rejection but was gratified to have predicted the exact minute I received the email.
Embrace the twitch!

Twitchomancy also includes prior quarter results, and last year Q3 results came out Sept 1. Write your next! It’s the only cure for twitching.

So even a rejection gets an email? What happened to the first one I submitted then? I didn't even get an email.
Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35
Every entry should get a notification but sometimes people get overlooked. If you email the contest coordinator, she can check your entry for you.

It's a big contest, likely 3000 or more entries per quarter. You can understand why some things slip through the cracks every now and then. The contest coordinator, Joni, does an impressive job considering how many duties she has. As was mentioned, just email her if you didn't get a response after the results are in, which they are for Q2.
As for Q3, the wait continues, and we might hear something before Q4 closes...they try to let us know before it closes out because there is a tendency to wait for results before submitting our next. Not that I'm predicting that will happen, but they've sent letters out in prior years to that effect.
The curtain is about to close on Volume 35. Make this one count. : )
Fortune favor the brave.

I'm sure you should get a confirmation email letting you know your story made it into the contest. If you don't hear anything contact the contest administrator, Joni. She will be happy to answer your questions so you can twitch with the rest of us.

Yeah I'd say that one's probably a lost cause at this point.

I just realized I can't 100% guarantee that I sent my Q3 submission in with the last round of edits in it or with comments turned off.

Hey, if you get an R you can ask Kary English if she remembers seeing your name in the comments

Sorry. I've had those fears SO many times. When I'm on top of things I try to label my WOTF as "name_WOTF" when it's ready to go and then upload that. But I don't always remember...

Dave's conducting a workshop in England this week, I believe, so I wouldn't expect any results for a while from him - but our intrepid first reader's pass might go out soon! Remember we have two sets of twitching to worry about now.

Dave finally has some help from Kary English.

I do wonder what kind of stories will catch her attention enough to read beyond the first two pages.

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35
I wouldn't be surprised if Kary is just weeding out the submissions that aren't actually stories. Dave complains that every quarter he receives a ridiculous amount of poems, vignettes, diatribes, recipes, even a love letter once. Kary can check for a beginning, middle, and "the end" and send it on to Dave. Who knows though, maybe she'll do more...

Re: Discussion: Q3 Volume 35
Kary doesn't read the whole story, that's Dave's job. But she's not just tossing out the weeds, she's actually the contest's first reader, selecting the ones that show obvious promise to go on to Dave for him to read and judge. Don't expect anything to change, except response times, perhaps. She goes by Dave's standards and she knows them well.
