Just how long will this twitching last

JUST got my “still in the running” email; interesting, Joni mentions winners will not be determined by the end of Q4.
Still unknown - get me while my stock is low!

Joni Labaqui here from the Writers of the Future contest with some good news. You are still in the running for the 3rd Quarter.

Your story made it through the "first pass", meaning you will be judged now by our coordinating judge, David Farland.

But I also wanted let you know that you should enter again, this current quarter, which is the 4th Quarter (1 July through 30 September)

We will not have our winners for quarter 3 before Quarter 4 has ended!!!

So do you have something that you can enter? I ALWAYS recommend entering every quarter if you can. You can even take something you've submitted here before and enter it again -- most people do make a few edits (obviously), or change the title. I'm letting you know this is possible and not against the rules at all.

Do let me know what your plan is!!!

And I will certainly let you know how you did on quarter 3 as soon as I can!!!!!

Thanks, Henckel. DSF is a tough market to crack. That was like the 30th story I've sent them.

I'm incapable of achieving their word count requirements.

a couple weeks ago I was given a writing challange, using three words (Canoe, Cheese, and freight). Max wordount set at 1100. well... I'm up to 2,100 and trying to close it off!.... but is just keeps slipping away. Kinda like trying to hold onto a fish!

Just got the "you made it through the first pass" email. I can also confirm that we won't be hearing any news anytime soon. Time to batten down the hatches. Looks like it's gonna be a longggg quarter folks.

Congratulations to all that entered Q3, and to all those that made it past Kary's machete! Kind of weird to know we're in Dave's selection pile--that's the only way to go higher--and yet we still don't have a clue as to whether or not we WILL go higher. Just don't miss Q4 worrying about Q3!

Okay. Silly question. But who are the judges for Q3?
Karl has fist pass.
Then Dave?
...but whose next?

Ah, ok, winners won't be notified before q4 closes at the end of September. But that's only as few weeks away.

Interesting. I guess I read that wrong. I read it as before Q4 is all said and done. As in Q3 and Q4 results will come around the same time.

Well that's a great way to start the morning. Good luck, Thomas. Thanks for that critique for my Q4 story by the way. Really helped a bunch.

Made it though the first pass. Surprised that I made it though the first pass as what I submitted is unlike what usually gets published in the WOTF anthology which makes me suspect the initial pass sample is quite large. Expecting rejection when Dave gets it, but hopefully he will enjoy reading it before passing on it. Trying to ignore this now and go back to work on my first novel.

No one wants to admit it, huh? Fine, I will. I got a rejection. Flash fiction, so wasn't expecting it to do well, but I hoped.

Off to find a more suitable market.

Best of luck! The only works I've had published thus far were my rejections.

Congratulations for clearing the slush pile, WiseSerpent! It means you did the right things in your opening two pages. If that *right stuff* follows through to the ending, you'll get an HM or higher, moving from what's likely ten percent into the five percent or better. Keep it up!

Cheers!

I wonder if Kary lets those quarterly love letters to Dave slip through anyway just to mess with him. Then she just sits back and laughs and laughs...
