Hate tooting my own horn, but one honk doesn't hurt. Based on concept originality alone, an HM, at the very least, seems likely. I only say this because several pro markets have commented on it in their personal R's. That being said, plot and characterization could leave me in the HM category. MAYBE a silver HM with semi-finalist being the ceiling for this story.

I'd love to see it make finalist or higher. It's been a vicious cycle of submission, edit/rewrite, submission with this piece over the last two years. Here's to hope and all that hoopla.

I have no idea what I'll get. Setting my expectations low with an R though as it's unlike what usually gets published in the Writers of the Future anthology.
I'm just glad that everything is ok with Dave per the sepsis. And feeling for Joni as trying to deal with the submission cut off for Q4 and this looming deadline for Q3 must be crazy! It's pretty amazing the lengths they and everyone else at WOTF go through and that they don't even charge us to submit!

Odds are an HM for me, because so far I've either received an early round R or an HM and I'm past the early round...
That said, my first readers both said this is my strongest story yet, so maybe, just maybe, I'll break that HM barrier this time.

I would love to win this contest. I'm working hard on finishing a novel and still finding time to write short stories.
I have only one HM so anything above an R would make me happy.

Along the way I've broken my dragon addiction and qwerty type my stories now.

What is the process at this point? This is my first time. Both making it this far and submitting.

MW: This time looks different. It's the first time we've been told all notifications are coming at once. Whether that includes finalists, we'll just have to wait and see.

Here's a radical thought: What if they don't call Finalists anymore? What if Joni is actually saying they are posting ALL results? This would mean the eight finalists would be sent to the judges as soon as Dave sends in the total batch. And all notices get held until the judges vote on First, Second, and Third place. Then you could release it all at once. It would be more streamlined, and less painful to Finalists that before got a call they were Finalists, and later got a call they didn't make it in.

I guess we'll find out tomorrow if there is something new here.

That could happen. I for one - as a four time non-winning Finalist - would be sad. Knowing you're in the running is amazing, it's worth the "sorry, didn't make it" letdown. It powers you on for those weeks to think about your craft.

But we shall see what Thursday has in store!

Hey all. My account was banned until today so I'm late to the game.

Joni sent me a "your story made it through the first pass" email back on Sept 11.

Eagerly awaiting the results.
