Congrats on the HMs everyone, especially the first timers. wotf008

I appreciated knowing. When were they introduced? If it was before Q3, it means I did better in Q3 than Q2 (my first entry).

I've been stuck in position 3 on the Moksha queue for another publication for a week, so I'm eagerly awaiting the result of that now. Along with my entry for Q4, it feels like one of my best stories.

This quarter. There's been a few instances of it happening over the years, but it's been rare. This seems like it might be more consistent going forward.

But what do I know? wotf017

pair of acceptances just showed up over at duotrope

wonder if that's finalist, or if the results are already in?

HM. What a bummer. Was hoping I'd get a little bit higher. SHM was my bet. Should have finished the story instead of leaving it in a cliffhanger. I wanted to test the water and see if any judge would deem my story worthy before it was even finished.

I hate an HM result wotf23 Only a critique would make me happy. That means SF at least.

This is just going to make me try harder until I get that critique I'm aiming for. wotf020

Same here. No sour grapes, don’t get me wrong! Just seems like a “still in the running” is totally incongruent with a flat-out R.

Onward and upward!

It means Kary liked your opening, and sent it on to Dave. That's a good thing--as you know, well over a thousand entries did not make it that far. But Dave still makes his calls on the entire story. Alas, something in the story did not work for Dave. You can spend time looking for it, or you can move on to your next. My recommendation? Don't spend a lot of time dwelling on it. Rejectomancy lies down that path. Some never return...

Wow, the forum is hopping! Condolences for all who rcvd an "R." I've had my share of those! Congrats to all the HM'ers. That's awesome (and frustrating!) There seems to be a curious lack of SHMs, SFs and finalists. What could this mean? ***looks around suspiciously at the forumites who have yet to report in.*** I'm not sure, but I can't remember the results arriving in one giant wave before. Is this it? Anyway, the important thing is that y'all entered. Don't give up!

[Thought it was a mistake but it's been cleared up for me!]

This was my first time entering and I managed an Honorable Mention, this has lit a fire in me and I've started to work on my next entry. wotf004

I've cycled back to rejections. For those keeping track, I did get the first pass email (I can't remember if I checked in here when I did). I'm off to send the story somewhere else! wotf024

Willow: Its legit--I got the same. Joni wrote 2nd Quarter in the subject line by mistake. Even she has a hard time keeping track of all the quarters, it would seem. : ) The body of the email shows you it is indeed for your 3rd Quarter entry. Congrats! DO reply to get the certificate, they are lovely, and frame it and put it on your wall. It's a signpost you are on the path.

Cheers!

Sorry, Beth. Rejections suck. But good you are sending it elsewhere. You still have a nice record. Very, very few currently qualifying entrants have that many certificates. It proves you consistently write professionally. Better fortune with Q4! I think we'll have whether we made first pass soon on that, so something to look forward to.

Cheers!

R for me. The whole "you made it past the first pass" email last month gave me false hope. I didn't get an email like that last quarter when I got an HM. Oh well.

This broke a really, really, really long strong of R's for me, so I am very grateful.

Congrats to all and especially to YM Pang on pro-ing out!!

I think the wave is over, guys. I heard about a semi-finalist. I'm guessing finalist calls have already gone out. This is just a guess, though.

Now that Dave has help going through stories, that's not necessarily true. It probably means you made it past Kary's read through, but not past Dave's. There are a lot of stories that get judged each quarter, which is why Dave needs that extra pair of eyes in the first place. Even so, don't let it get you down--I've revised R's into SHMs before. (Never got a finalist out of them, but I've definitely tried.)
If a person offend you, and you are in doubt as to whether it was intentional or not, do not resort to extreme measures; simply watch your chance and hit him with a brick. ~ Mark Twain

Finalists have not been announced. Check the WotF official website and read under the Blog heading for the official announcement of results. Until then, the only way we know is if little birds tell us, like some member of this Forum chirping that they've been told by Joni it's okay to tell people now.

Cocks an ear. Anyone hear any chirping?
