I saw the E-mail for the 3rd quarter, forgot for a moment which one I was entered in and thought "Already they are sending out rejections," but it hit me that that was the Third quarter the one I did not enter. Broke my run too.

Yeah, my experience has been that q4 has come out really fast of recent years - presumably so they have plenty of time to organise the gala, and give the q4 illustrators time to work.

Q4 has always had faster results, because of deadlines on editing the anthology and getting it printed in time for the gala. In other words...

THURSDAY COMETH.

Listens to the echoes of the words of the prophets. Checks his calendar. Yes, he's come to the right place. No, gods have not appeared on the altar. Will Thursday the Thunderous manifest? Will it bring benedictions? Or bane?

Drops to his knees and offers a silent prayer.

Me: In how many of those did I place?

Dr Strange: None

Glad we're almost there.

This has been the least twitchy I've ever been leading up to Thursday. With big things happening in both my professional life (certification exam) and personal life (moving), I've been able to keep my mind on other things. I'm a little surprised I have a story in at all. It's my only one this year.

But I feel I'm literally days away from becoming a "writer" again. 2019 will hold big things. Hoping to start it off with another HM or better.

Good luck to everyone.

Same. I have so many things going on at the same time that fretting about this contest feels like a luxury.

Dang, I'm here twitching my socks off! Don't know how you all deal with it every quarter! Got tons going on at home with an incoming international move next summer and putting our house up for sale on the personal side and working, writing a novel, and everything to do with two kids but I can't stop fretting about this contest.

I'm moving from the U.S. to Australia in a few weeks, and that's not even the most hectic thing in my life right now! wotf019

Can't wait for the next long stretch of writing time. The week after Christmas is usually the most relaxed for me.

The cure to twitching is writing new stories and sending them out to other markets. Soon, you'll have so many pans in the fire, it won't matter so much if this dish flops. You've got plenty more cooking!

Ding! Order up!

This is so true. I’m working on a novel, always edit and turn around my shorts on the endless hope train, puttering about with story ideas, and honestly I have to stop and think about the contest anymore. It’s still important to me, but it’s not my only thing cooking.

Thursday... You fear to go into those mines. The writers delved too greedily and too deep. You know what they awoke in the darkness of Wotf-dum... shadow and flame.

Drums in the deep.

They're coming.

Does mentioning the contest in the writing tips count as a "peep"?

If so, PEEP.

I'm pretty sure I've seen that email before. I think Dave recycles writing tips occasionally.

Hey, all!

This was a hard, hard quarter, with lots of really good entries. Sometimes Joni sends out results in waves, and sometimes it's one big deluge all at the end. If she goes for waves, they could start anytime. If she waits, it might be the third or fourth week of November before we hear anything.

Hang in there, and keep writing!
