Story rejected because of File name?

Postby kentdoc » Fri Jun 22, 2012 2:39 am

What happens to stories that are rejected because of technical reasons such as
file name not accepted by system or the author's name on the text somehwere? Do you get notified or do you just have to guess what happened? Can such a rejected story be resubmitted (perhaps at the next quarter)?
Can you go over the rules for file names and give an example?
Thanks.

You just get a rejection letter. Your story could have gone through and been read or it could have been disqualified. No way to know. (Anyone who has had a different experience, please correct me.)

Yes you can always resubmit rejections--but it's likely that a newer story will do better, since in the intervening 3-6 months of waiting for results, you've probably improved your writing skills.

Your file name should look something like this: Awesome Story Title or AwesomeStoryTitle or AwesomeStoryTitle2

Do not include your name in the story title. Do not include your name in the document. All of your identifying information goes in the form on the website when you submit.

Check out this thread for more details on keeping yourself anonymous.

Thanks. Those are some good tips. I am glad that they send a rejection notice. I was afraid that the story just went into a black hole and you never found out what happened.

I had a story rejected because I left my name on it. Stupid mistake, I knew it the moment I sent it off, too.

Next quarter I sent it in for an HM. Newer can be better, but guage your story.

The moral of the story: we are responsible for ourselves; they don't owe us the coddling to explain "you left your name on it". So I lost a quarter technically. It didn't kill me, but the point hit home: be careful before you hit send. Be SURE.

Thanks Dawn. I think I did the same thing once, but was never sure. I didn't receive a notification from WOF. Did you receive one?

You should get notification that the contest has your story more or less the minute you submit it.

Check your spam folder--the e-mail used for announcements is either contests@authorservicesinc.com or uh... mailer@wizehive.com .

HI
Of course you get notiofication that WOF has received your story. My question is if you get notification if it is rejected due to technical grounds.

No you do not. It'll come as a rejection.
