What do you call these weapons?

Postby Jason Parker » Fri Jul 01, 2016 9:29 am

You know those slider thinggies that some characters wear up their long sleeves and they slide guns out into both hands? Like at the end of Desperado? And like the bad guy from Justified season three?

What do you call those weapons?

I'm imagining a character who has those thinggies but uses daggers or short swords.

A sleeve gun. I don't know of a specific term for the extensor mechanism.

Thanks. I suppose a set of daggers could be called "sleeve daggers."

I guess I could call the mechanism "spring-loaded sliders."

Derringer quick draw is what I think your thinking of. I watched a lot of westerns in my youth.

I too believe they are usually called sleeve weapons. I can't recall what those little derringers were called when they were all the rage in movies and books. Hidden gun maybe. A spring weapon. Something along those lines. Now though I read a lot different stories that use the term sleeve knife or gun.

And I have read a lot of stories with various types of knifes hidden in the sleeves like that. A few guns too. But very few swords. Even the short sword would be kinda of bulky. A new mini rapier maybe. Or one that could lengthen itself when activated?

I googled that topic and viewed pictures of items such as those you speak of.
Concealed spring-loaded weapons is what they are and they look very efficient.

Perhaps a katar with a spring mechanism? Can't find any historical examples, but there's no reason you can't invent it, of course wotf011
