Space Force

Postby FictionMuse » Sat Oct 06, 2018 3:02 am

When Trump announced a space force, the late night comedians had a field day.

But Neil deGrasse Tyson has been making the rounds of the talk shows to say that the idea of a space force is not fundamentally flawed.

I would go further. Much further.

We will need one some day, especially if part of their job is to find and catalogue space junk. Don't know if this is that day or not. So I agree that the basic idea is sound.

To declare a military space mission gives away extant strategies and installations, methods and sources, too. Plus, once realized, adversaries of less rocket science competence join extant multidimensional battle theater competitors, learn force multiplication's true methods and advantages, and affords occasions for asymmetrical insurgencies.

Not to mention Reagan's "Star Wars" initiative bluff broke one superpower competitor!? Another global power is on the cusp of success and failure due to the latest supercarrier developments. Huh, can't afford the multibillion $'s of domestic naval expansion expenses? Build up an outer defense ring of vulnerable island "flattops" for stopgaps and a dubious semi-mobile missile defense-offense system to counter supercarrier squadrons -- without ample realization of multidimensional battle theater tactics and strategies.

Stonewall Jackson said it best, "Get there the first-est with the most-est." The U.S. already has an extant space force and tactical strategies out the yin-yang, ready for implementation when needed and necessary, and budgeted. Someone didn't tell So-and-so for good reason.
