I became intrigued about finalist stories again when Liz put her finalist story up recently, which I'll read in the next week or so. I remember reading a couple of published semi-finalist stories but can't remember where.

I really enjoyed this story. It had some great worldbuilding (a war golem choosing to live a life of peace? I'm in!)

Same here. It was also interesting to read the prequel after (also on Liz's website), and I wondered if it was written before Warspawn.
