Using art to inspire writing

Postby Randy Hulshizer » Wed Dec 02, 2015 12:41 pm

Here is a fictional map I created to inspire my writing. I had painted the ship previously (about a year ago). I recently created the background, superimposed the ship over it, and added the compass and the title scroll.

(I've covered the titling on the grounds that it may incriminate me, since it might be part of the title for my story).

My Blue Collar Space series started with a map. I planned (but never got to run) a RPG campaign set in the Lunar city of Tycho Under. I made an incredibly detailed map. Later I used that map as the setting for several stories, and those stories were the first Blue Collar Space stories.

Very nice map.
When I was a kid I used to go through stacks of National Geographics looking for map inserts. Good times.

I've drawn maps for a couple of fantasy games I've been involved with. I also have a penchant for drawing some of my characters, because I like being able to visualize them.

I drew a map for my first attempt at a novel.
It helped when my mc's moved around during the story.
