Well my request for stories with Beautiful Prose turned out really well, so I thought I'd give this a shot too.
I'm jonesing for something paranormal. What's good right now? I've laid off the genre for a few years (I think the last paranormal/horror thing I read was House of Leaves, and before that the Hellboy comics), but I'm ready to absorb whatever has come out in the last 5ish years that rocks socks.
Whatcha think?

I really like Dan Simmons' Summer of Night.
That's over 5 yrs old tho, sorry. Can't say I've read any in the past 5.

The first two things that come to mind are Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series, which starts with "Timeless" and is Victorian/steampunk/paranormal; and Carrie Vaughn's Kitty series.

Well, new or old, I haven't read, so I'll check it out. Thanks.

Ah hem
It ENDS with Timeless, the book order for that series is
Soulless
Changelss
Blameless
Heartless
and then Timeless. They are fun books with a strong sense of frivoliity, but I could be biased as I've known the author for years.

Thank you for correcting me. The books are wonderful, but the titles do sound quite similar. The mistake was an honest one.

Yeah, there is nothing in the titles that might give you a clue as to the order. I kept getting tripped up on the second book and in siting on calling it shapeless not changeless.Thank you for correcting me. The books are wonderful, but the titles do sound quite similar. Strycher
A great Horror novel, that's been around a while, it The Terror by Dan Simmons. It was the first book I had picked from him and man it's a page turner.
If you want something very different try Last Call by Tim Powers.
