By the way, Preston, I just yesterday got a chance to read your story (The Laughing Tree). Thanks for sharing -- I enjoyed it!

Re: Success!
I believe Mike Resnick told me to come talk to him again when I'd put my plan in action and earned six figures in a year from my fiction. (He said this on this forum back in 2012ish I think? And I said by 2016 was my goal).
So, hi Mike, and everyone else. I did it this year and I'm on track to blow this year out of the water next year.
So... I think I've at least shown proof of concept that you can start as nobody, (still basically be nobody), self-publish without a trad-built platform, and make a very good living.
Follow your dreams, guys. Don't let someone tell you it isn't possible. Have a plan and adjust as necessary!

Congrats! I experimented with self publishing myself a bit recently. It's still a bit of a mystery to me though it's a pretty interesting phenomenon.

Re: Success!
It's not a publication success but I'm celebrating just the same.
The 30,000 words opening to my novel is now a slim 16,800 words.
hell it could a WotF submission if I wanted LOL

Re: Success!
December was amazing.
I received a HM in WotF (went down to the wire with that one), sold four stories and had two reprints. (and I have two more currently on hold)
Holland: 1944, my V30Q3 rejection which then sold to Galaxy's Edge (without changing a word) was reprinted in 'The Best of Galaxy's Edge 2013-2014.
Then this week it was listed in Tangent's 2014 recommended reading list.

Great read -- thanks so much for sharing it, Krystal!
HM? I can't quite decide whether to be depressed that even this story "only" got an HM, or to be more excited than ever about getting an HM last quarter. Since excitement tends to lead to more productivity than depression does, I'll try for excitement. =P
It's a beautiful story, Krystal, and thanks again for sharing it! =)
