Success!
Re: Success!
Well, after being on a real roll in the second half of last year I honestly wondered where my next sale was coming from. I can now reveal it's coming from Gumshoe. Yes, I wrote a crime story! (The story is called 'The Eleventh Commandment' and is due out in June.)
Following my political satire in 'More Alternative Truths' that makes two non-speculative stories in a row. Since I can't seem to sell speculative at the moment, maybe I should try another career path?

Re: Success!
Congratulations Ishmael!
If you enjoy writing other genres and people are buying them, I don't see why not. You can always slip a little speculative element into everything if you get the itch, just remember to wrap it up with a nice "logical" bow at the end. ;)

Congrats, Ishmael! I heard crime is a pretty tough market to crack, so yay you!
I'm gonna end up posting both here and in Five Minute Rant today, because it's been that kind of day. I've sold a story to Escape Pod; happened a while ago but I wanted to wait until contracts were signed before saying anything. Second science fiction sale (third if you count that one that was paid for but never will get published), to go with my three fantasy sales.
Quite pleased about how my SF is doing, considering I started writing it seriously only last year. Been writing fantasy for fifteen years...

An anthology I am in, The Chronos Chronicles, just came out on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1910910171/
This is very exciting to me because my story in this, The Wishing Place, is the first short story I wrote.

Re: Success!
Had a couple tiny successes this week amidst a ton of negativity. Apparently, my non-fiction articles have gotten enough traction on Medium that I'm now a top writer in the "Mental Health" category and I had one of those articles accepted to The Good Men Project (an online publication about how male roles are transitioning in the 21st century [in a good way]).
So... yay small victories.

The Razor's Edge will be released earlier than expected: June 15th. My story "Final Flight of the PhoenixWing" will be the last story in the anthology. Pre-orders here: https://squareup.com/market/zombies-need-brains-llc (For those outside the US, the anthology will be available through Amazon on the release date). If military SF/F about rebellion piques your interest, check it out!
This will be my first short story publication. It took 10 years and 200 rejections, but as they say: Never give up. Never surrender. :)

I think it's pretty amazing to have got in Razor's Edge, YM. Those guys are hard to please!
Here's my own first effort this year. Slow off the mark but running at last!

The Eleventh Commandment is not actually my first crime story, but it's the first with no SF / Fantasy elements.

Re: Success!
Mad Scientist Journal accepted two fictional advertisements from me. Normally I'd wait to circulate contracts to post about it, but I wanted to tell everyone here because their submission window is still open. http://madscientistjournal.org/submissions/ and this maybe gives you more time to get something in.
I found them on the Grinder (https://thegrinder.diabolicalplots.com/) a year or so ago and they were my very first sale of any kind (a fictional ad that ran in the Spring 2018 issue).
There are so many markets out there, everyone. Submit, submit, submit!

Thanks! I had a feeling it wasn't right for WOTF when I submitted it, but every now and then you have to try a passion project, right? Not everyone likes 18th century-style epistolary shorts like I do.
