I know you've had many more pro sales since, Michelle--didn't realize this one is your first published. You will be eligible for a Campbell Award, I think you've got one year now, and you've got the wind backing you to earn it! If I were you, I'd really try to get a quick novella sized novel out there. I had two stories published at the beginning of this month: "This Isn't Better" in Galaxy's Edge, and "Peace in the Valley" in Factor Four Magazine. They were my second publications in both markets.

I am now officially pro-ed out from the contest. I have learned so much from being a part of this discussion board, and I'm sure I would not have developed so far as a writer without all of the knowledge, community, and critique from the awesome writers here, so thank you all so very much for everything. Wishing everybody all the best in your writing careers!

Totally excited for you, Rebecca! A little sad though too. Must be a bitter sweet feeling to be a pro writer and have to leave the contest at the same time. wotf014

Well this is my first post on the "sucess" thread. ..

I just got the news a few days ago that a short story of mine as been accepted into an anthology. (I'm dancing on the inside. Really. Otherwise a 40+ year old man dancing beside a public pool with a phone in his hand might just come off as weird).

As for my story.... think Don Quixote... as a cowboy. ...

Sorry I missed your announcement, Rebecca. Congratulations! Armies of conga rats dancing for you! The purpose of the contest is to help us become pro writers. We can do that through the contest, or we can do it outside. Either way, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Best of success to your continued writing career! Since we live in the same state, and both go to Norwescon, I am certain we shall meet one day.

However, pleased to announce my story 'Devine Justice' in Alternative Theologies from B-cubed.

About a week ago, I got together with a group of SF/F writers in Toronto to create a "one-day" anthology. Everyone had to write and edit their story within one day--which, considering we started in the afternoon, functionally meant 2-7 hours. The theme/title is SANCTUARY and my story "Glass Heart Giant" is in it. It is, as the title suggests, about a group of people living in the glass heart of a giant. I was really impressed by many of the other writers/stories there too.

I'm probably not gonna make it to L.A., but at least I got to do my own version of the 24hr story. wotf007
