I love stories like that. It reminds us that a rejection doesn't necessarily mean it's bad writing.

This we all need to engrave on stone and whack ourselves in the forehead when we too stressed by dave's bitter rejections.
The ONLY thing you can know from an 'R' is that Dave didn't care for your story.
Not why.
Not a damn thing about quality.

Like Bob I also await the contract, but I have received an acceptance from T Gene Davis's Speculative Blog for a 2100 word contemporary fantasy.
Gratitude to Stewart for suggesting that Gene might like this particular story. That's twice you have pointed me in the direction of a sale. I wish I could reciprocate.
I could get used to this walking on clouds stuff. 2015 has raised my short story sales by 200%. Have they been putting something in the water over there?

Awesome! Two of my four sales were to T. Gene Davis, so far he's bought everything I've sent him! Mind you, I wouldn't send him all of my stuff...

Re: Success!
Thank you all. This little rush of acceptances has me quite disorientated. It does however have the fringe benefit that Mrs Ishmael is no longer able to describe my efforts to write as taking refuge from proper work about the farm!

It is indeed 'This Story is a Lie."
Not bad for story that started out as a challenge to write a tale about a homeless woman in Timbuktu in 2300 AD

Vivid imagery, poetic prose, cool idea... Like Spatchcock, it had a little punch there at the end too. Nice story, Ishmael.

Re: Success!
My thanks to Elinor and Preston. I did really enjoy writing this one. I should also acknowledge the very helpful critiques received in Baen's Bar.
I'm not sure where the initial inspiration came from for this story, but I remember being very impressed by a radio interview in which Alexander McCall Smith agreed with the suggestion that not a lot happened in his books. I'm not sure this is entirely true, but I thought to myself that it has to be some achievement to write hugely entertaining best sellers in which not a lot happens. It does make you pay very close attention to the little things that do happen, as well as having the luxury of showing every relevant aspect of the setting in a relaxed way. So I did my best to follow that precept here.

Nicely done. It is refreshing to be reminded that deep point of view and nonstop action are not the only way to write an entertaining story.

I truly enjoy reading 'risen from the ashes' phoenix like success stories. This is the kind of thing that provides many of us hope who have yet to make a sale. Congrats!

Re: Success!
Thanks to all who've commented on my story. To newcomers to the forum, perhaps I should issue a cautionary note. Do not send something like this in to WotF. It would be most unlikely to make the first cut. On the other hand, as has been mentioned, it is nice to know that there are markets available for different styles.
